Fireplace for bedroom Direct Vent with Low BTU's?

I'm building a custom home and have 7 fireplaces going in. I live in Massachusetts and like to use the fireplaces all year round. I've looked at Town and Country, Mendota, Heat&Glo Tru. I want a real looking fireplace that is direct vented that I can use all year round for more than an hour at a time. I don't want it to get so hot that I have to turn it off. I also want a clean face without a lot of black trim or louvers on it. I love the way the Mendota FV46 looks and the Heatnglo tru looks but the lowest they go with still seeing a flame are around 28,000 BTU's. I fear that will be way too hot for an office and a master bedroom. Any suggestions? Town & Country gives off the lowest amount of heat but the flame is a very fast flicker.
