All materials will have a color which is a combination of an amount of cyan, an amount of magenta, and an amount of yellow. (or alternately it can also be expressed as amounts of red, green and blue). But also they have another measurement which is the LRV (the "light reflective value") which is the brightness. Therefore, to my way of thinking there are two aspects: - cool versus warm (this is the color) and - bright versus less-bright (this is the LRV). To me it's a mistake to mix cool and warm. The three things (cabinet, countertop, backsplash) should all be consistently one or the other.. Some whites are so pure that they are neither one or the other and can therefore go with anything. I think White Dove and Pure White fall into that category. But some other whites are warm and others are cool. Then the choice of what should be the brightest element is a separate question. In my case I wanted it to be the cabinets so I made sure that the white backsplash was subdued by not being too brilliant. You can look up different paints and see the color and the LRV here. (I used the equivalent of Benjamin Moore for my cabinets. It has zero cyan and zero magenta and just a teeny amount of yellow. If the yellow was higher it would make it warm, but it's so little so it doesn't have that effect). There is no paint that has zero everything (which would be a perfect white). So all whites have a touch of something. And the LRV is quite high at 86%

Before our recent remodel my house interior was Dover White, flat finish on walls and Dover White wood trim in semigloss. My downstairs floor plan is mostly open and I was happy with the combination. Dover White is a shade that will change throughout the day's light and it played well with all the colors in my furnishings. And it never looked too harsh, to me, during cold winter months, as some whites can. We replaced our natural maple stained cabinets with white (a creamy white cabinet manufacturer calls Buttercream) and we have light stone counters. I wanted a subtle color on my walls as contrast to all the white. We Chose BM Carrington Beige and I just love how it makes all my white trim and our mantel pop. It is a chameleon shade that reads greenish, at times. Other times it's warm with a subtle golden glow. The name "beige" IMO, is not very representative of this color. I'm also thinking of Soprano for my counters in the kitchen. I ordered the 6x12 and it arrives tomorrow. My lowers are Cherry wood that I bought unfinished and stained a medium Walnut. My Uppers and one whole wall where the fridge is located are all Antique White. I brought the Antique White drawer slab with me at the stone place and saw how nice it looked. I was almost going to order the Minuet, had that in mind for 2 years until last week :) hopefully this is the last major change before the kitchen actually goes in starting 1st week of December

Hi dmac, cabinet paint is Sherwin Williams matched to Benjamin more’s white dove OC-17, pendant lights were from bellacor, barstools are from restoration hardware (they weren’t expensive though), subway tile is daltile rittenhouse in arctic white.
