Your friend's son needs to go work for a pro for a few years and learn the trade. That is NOT even a fair job.

Wow...that has to be the worst install I've ever seen. He clearly did not read the installation instructions at all. The boards need to be staggered, not lining up like he did (and ha didn't even line them up well, lol). Make sure he fixes it or pays for someone to fix it. I would definitely use this as a learning moment...be careful hiring a friend, family member, etc...it almost always ends badly.

He's put floors like this in people's houses for 2 years??? My first (and only, to date) vinyl plank floor was loads better than that. This isn't rocket science, but it takes a modicum of design sense and sufficient literacy to read the manufacturer's instructions.

Never hire anyone without seeing another job they've done.

Where do I start. He came over had a talk with him. Told him how unhappy I was. He admitted it didn't look right. Started to peel it off and when we realized they were not really salvageable we got new ones. He did an awesome job this second time around. He definitely learned how to do this tile now, first time with these vinyl planks. No gaps, now ugly edges, and now it's not "straight solders." We couldn't stagger then better bc of the weird wired nooks and crannies in my not so straight 4 walled bathroom.

Not 2 years doing flooring. 2 years since he started to work in the construction field so he's done a little bit of everything. Not pro status

Still amateur looking. Yes, he could have done a standard inlay without the butt joins. He just doesn't have the skill. Still needs to be removed and redone.

Yes I can live with it like this. Before was a total eye sore. I literally sat on my floor and couldn't stop starring at it. Now it's just fine. Like I said my bathroom is very complicated and I think a perfect rectangle room that's bigger would have been a complete different story. About 3 planks per row fit in the bathroom at Its longest point

The before job was a joke.

On the second attempt, more variation in length would have been nice, it is basically alternating same lengths. Also, figuring out a good pattern is important, there are a lot of colors bunched together.

Doesn't matter if it isn't square, what you need is a laminate installation kit with a pull bar, tapping block, and shims for the expansion needed at the edges. Speaking of that, I don't see he did a gap at the edges, all you have to do is read the box for directions on this folks...

Last nit-pick, he didn't undercut the door jambs and mouldings and install the floor underneath. Now you will have to try to finish off those exposed areas.

Vith, that isn't laminate. You don't use a pull bar. It is Allure vinyl with grip strips. I have put in down several times without undercutting. Its very easy to cut. I just cut it as close to the trim as possible and caulk. Looks fine.

itsnatzen- That looks great. Which color is it? I have used Allure vinyl in numerous projects, and it always turns out great. I picked up some color samples as HD the other day from my Mother In Law. So many choices! I left with a stack of samples.

Crazysmom- I used the Khaki Oak he finished the baseboards today and I'm very happy. Now I just need a floor transition

Thanks crazysmom, did not know about the grip strips. I am used to the click lock style of LVP where I have used my pull bar and tapping block frequently.

I nee d some help on deciding on the LVP floor that I will put throughout my house. I have learned a lot in the 20+ hours that I have been looking at thd products and going to every store to get them to drop the price for 1800 square feet. I am looking for a LVP floor that has 20mm or more for wear layer and atleast 7m to 8 m thick.

I have stained pine molding around my windows that have a red hue and many other woods in my house in a shaker style. I want the floor to be classy and look as close to wood as possible and not too trendy.

I have selected 3 floors that I like:

Fusion Hybrid Hemlock

Invincible Stormy Day

CoreLuxe- Brazilian Koa-Engineered Vinyl Plank

I feel like I need to pick a floor that blends well with all the woods. I will be selling in the next couple of years so I need the floor that makes a statement and draws in buyers as well.
