Sad news kitchen-wise. Can't use green sink in remodel
Comments (16)The green sink is 42 inches wide. I was thinking of a 30" base with a maybe 20" (or so) wide single bowl undermount or apron sink, so there'd be a difference of about 22 inches of counter top. The open space at the end is where I was thinking of putting a raised 18" DW with a storage drawer below it. I figure at least a 2" fill on the wall side to accommodate the door trim. The window (TBA) will be somewhere in between 4 and 5 feet wide. Also considering a single deep tub DW drawer instead of the 18", fwiw. (The program DH uses for the floor plan is at least 10 years old. Pretty limited but it works for the main floor plan measurements. Putting in specific items (like a raised DW)is nearly impossible.) It seems like no matter what kitchen I've ever had, I tend to work in the same 3 feet to the left of the sink so that's what I'm trying to get. Right now in that kitchen, there is 30" to the left of the present sink and then 30" around the corner before the stove. We've been using the kitchen while remodeling the bedroom/entry side of the house this winter and I find it a bit short on space at the present measurements so I've been trying to eek out all the counter top inches that I can. Here is a pic of the kitchen as it is currently except all that 'decorative' stuff belonged to the renter and is gone. It's not the greatest pic but you can see how the general layout is. The current window over the sink is like 3' wide. The SB is currently 33" wide. I want to widen the window (just leaving 33" for 12" deep open shelves on the stove wall and then an 18" upper between the open shelves and the left of the sink and trim)and move the sink a bit to the right as this will greatly improve my view of the river. Right now I have a great view of the backyard and front of the garage and I have to lean over to the right side of the current window to see the pretty river. The counter top issue was one of the main factors in deciding months ago that the green sink wouldn't work and I guess I forgot that for a moment after Boxer posted that green sink pic. After taking some time off from obsessing on this (ok, like a day), a thought occurred: Work the layout to perfection (or as close as GW peeps can get me, lol) and then see how it 'feels' in the house as a whole as we start to finish in the other side of the house. I know just opening up the 7 ft. dropped ceilings to 9 ft. and getting new windows in the side we're working on has caused me already to rethink some things that I thought were pretty much set. Wonder if I'm getting ahead of myself and then I feel bad that I'm wasting yours and everyone else's time since I change my mind so much. Comments (12)Well after living with my Nantucket for awhile i do have a few other thoughts. The mirror finish scratches like crazy. We are so careful but somehow it has quite a few scratches around the drain already. Also hard water is a big deal. We have to wipe it down completely and if the feet of the rack are not completely dry they will leave water marks that are very hard to remove. It’s a lot of upkeep. We dry it out after dinner and don't use it again until next meal. i find myself pouring out water glasses in the bathroom. It’s really attractive and I especially like the folding rack that sits on the top ledge but do you really want this kind of upkeep in a sink? If you have a softening system it’s probably not an issue....See MoreKitchen Sink area 'reno': 4 new appliances...
Comments (0)Does 4 new appliances related to my sink count as a kitchen sink renovation? :-) === Context a) Situation started with an unwanted drip from my 10 year old Delta Touch faucet. Diagnosis: The a > $100 electronic part (the solenoid). We love the touch feature. Had no problems till now. Definitely want another. All bathroom Delta touch faucets are still going strong with no problems at + 10 yrs. b) Situation evolved in a week with a much bigger leak from the manifold of my 20 yr old under-sink Reverse Osmosis unit. I am SO glad I didn't replace my floor tile with wood (yet...) I've been wanting to replace the RO unit with a different model (below). === Kitchen Sink reno key parts 1) Under-sink Mini Water Heater: Bosch ES 2.5 https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0148O658Y/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I bought the smallest one (2.5 gallons) since my Bosch dishwasher allegedly uses only 1.9 gallons per cycle (that sounds unbelievable to me...) I'm swapping my disposal for the mini-water heater. We use the disposal maybe once a month. Trash pull-out is convenient to the sink. I'd appreciate fast hot water so much more than my existing disposal. online pic 2) Reverse Osmosis under-sink filtration https://store.afwfilters.com/reverse-osmosis-systems/drinking-ro-systems/8-stage-zoi-pi-pure-reverse-osmosis-system I used that company above for my 2017 water softener purchase after researching who made the best water softener valves (Fleck). They ship quickly, and someone (mark at afwfilters.com) always answers my questions promptly via email, even late at night. The faucet received looks like this only, thankfully, much more like a normal "stainless" than dark like below which was labeled "brushed nickel" 3) Faucet: Delta Touch20 Leland https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B079FNV76X/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I think the Addison model is prettiest, but this model goes best with the RO faucet that will be nearby. 4) Sink: Ruvati single bowl 33" https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B079FNV76X/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Thank you @Salex, The Kitchen Place, ghostlyvision, Joseph Corlett, and Miranda33 for advice in the related Houzz topic: https://www.houzz.com/discussions/5720729/please-fix-my-semi-urgent-kitchen-sink-situation-600-budget 5) Xtreme Mats Under Sink Kitchen Cabinet Mat https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HCGQ86A/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 For the inevitable next leak. What kills me about the water making it to the floor: I had not just 1, but 2 under sink water leak detectors under my cabinet. One towards n the back, one in the middle in a jelly roll / cookie pan right under the sink plumbing. However, the water from the Reverse Osmosis manifold went straight down through the left side cabinet seam and onto the floor. My plumber told me about this mat. I had Hue light strips installed last year all over the kitchen (above cab, below cab, under the toe kick area). LOVE the Hue light strips and Hue lights in the kitchen. "Alexa turn off the island". At holidays the Christmas and Thanksgiving theme colors can be really fun. https://bit.ly/2KC24y5 However, the cabinet mat would have been resting directly on the LED drivers for the under cabinet part that plugs in under my sink. Also, the mat would have been tilted. So I had a handyman install a piece of wood cut around the drivers to level the sink bottom and put no pressure on the LED drivers. === Current challenge: 1) Actually receiving the Delta Touch20 faucet. It was the first thing I ordered, and will be the last thing I receive. Faucet #1: Ordered on June 8, delivery from Home Depot. the Delta Touch20 faucet Addison model. When it arrived, I noticed what I thought was tiny balls of dirt under the shrink wrap and on the ground under the package on my porch. It wasn't dirt. It was those tiny magnetic balls from the magnet disc part that I believe goes under the sink. It had cracked. I think the damage happened in shipment - the faucet was packaged just like you pull it off the shelf. NOT packaged well for shipment. However, looking at it next to the RO faucet made me realize the Delta Leland design would look better than the Addison design. Faucet #2: Ordered on June 15, with pickup from Lowes. Estimated arrival of TODAY. I called Lowes today. They said their vendor had not even shipped it to Lowes yet. More phone calls reveal the Lowes' vendor doesn't even have it in their possession yet to ship to my Lowes store. Canceled the order. SO rude to pretend like you have something available for immediate shipment but don't. Faucet #3: Ordered today June 24 from Amazon. Guaranteed deliver Wednesday June 26. === Next: Cutting the third hole in the sink. RO will be on left. Soap dispenser on right. Many thanks to the related advice from Cleo07, jdesign_gw, kudzu9, weedmeister, Joseph Corlett, and geoffrey_b in https://www.houzz.com/discussions/5722239/best-practices-when-drilling-the-hole-through-a-stainless-steel-sink#24189819 That happens this week!...See Morejpmom
