From my understanding, it's very difficult to cut runnels in quartz. But I haven't paid attention in a while so maybe that's changed.

Bummer, deedles. I had to give up a whole tall pantry to fit in a fridge cabinet. There always seems to be something. I'm sure there are many here who will feel your pain:-(

Do you have a laundry room you can use it in? Maybe a greenhouse? It's such a great sink, it would be fun to use it somewhere. My vintage sink is going in the pantry/utility area...mainly because it's too shallow for the main sink and it would take up too much counterspace, too.

Deedles, I was looking over the previous posts today...clown vomit and the follow-up. And it struck me that no one seems to have directed you to look at SandyPonder's kitchen. It's not what you're headed for, but your comments about colorful, different kitchens being outside the mainstream here reminded me of it. Take a look at the link.

Meanwhile, my two cents about the whole thing. I love the rooster wallpaper, the green stove and green sink (really so sad it won't work). You say you love grandma stuff, and I'm a real believer in finding something or things you love (provided it works with the house) and design around them. Circus Peanut, Boxer and others have given you some great ideas about how to make a colorful, vintage kitchen work well and be tasteful as well as fun. For what it's worth, I particularly like the idea of painted cabs, especially if I'm understanding correctly that the adjoining living room has a lot of honey pine? Is it paneled? I like the grey/orchid color with the paper and range, but it feels too far off from the yellow/gold tones of the honey pine in nearby room for me. I'd play with greens, yellows and reds.

It looks like you have the space for the big sink and a dishwasher on the right...so are you sure you don't want to use the vintage sink? They're so cool...and think of the dishes you could hide in there, until you can load the dishwasher. Okay, wait, I'm projecting my cleaning skills (or lack thereof) onto your kitchen space...but with that beautiful view out the porch, there's got to be times when dishes will have to wait! LOL

If you truly can't use it, sell her to a good family who will appreciate her. Those old sinks are valuable, so you may be able to pay for a nice new setup.
If there is a way to work it in, I'd really try. You know, you can have a cutting board made to fit over one side to extend your prep space...... You can also have drawers made as you see in LL's pic.

Well, here's my reasoning thus far:

The kitchen currently has from left side of sink wall: 54" of counter top, then the sink, then an 18" run, then a 31"(?)fridge. Total 72" counter space.

I'm moving the fridge over to the other wall as seen in the FP, so as to be able to move the sink down a bit and gain some counter space on the left of the sink where I do most of my work.

My pre-green-sink plan for that wall, sorry I have no pics right now, will give me 91" total counter top, with almost a foot of the gain to the left of the sink.

If I put big green in there, I'll end up with 4 feet to the left of sink (a foot less than is there now)and 2 feet to the right.

If I have to choose counter space or sink, I have to choose counter space.

I'll have to re-look at my cabinets/storage layout and post it here. I'm sure you guys may see some possibility that is not even on my radar.

Dianolo: I will totally take the sink with me, OR I could sell it to a good home somewhere, too. I was planning to take it along.. .I'd never leave it when we sell our current house. I could just see it end up in a dump somewhere (!!!).

On the topic of red: I received my samples of silestone Red Eros counter top (as seen in the C.V. kitchen) and it's quite beautiful next to the chicken wallpaper AND next to the stove. Beeeutiful. Doesn't look nearly as REDRUM REDRUM as it does in that infamous pic. Could def. see using that stuff. Runnels would be nice though, but not a deal breaker.
I ordered the regular and leathered finish... prefer the reg. That leathered stuff looks dusty or something. I'll take a pic and get it on here so yooz guyz can see.

Deedles- The green sink is 42" wide...or 4'2" wide? How wide is the other sink you're considering? I'm confused about the large difference in counterspace, especially if you're moving the fridge.

Don't get me wrong, not trying to make you use the green sink...but I am confused about the measurements. Also, what is the space, between the end of the countertop and the doorway? And...how big is the window, over the sink? I'm just full of questions! LOL

Oh, and nice to see that the red countertop will work with the wallpaper and the stove. That would be a really pretty combination and a less colorful sink might be a better fit, anyway :)

It's too bad that your sink won't work but hopefully the wall paper still will. Don't forget that red and green are complementary colours and so one should be more heavily weighted in your colour scheme than the other. With the red counters the green stove will really pop (which I think it should) and then you can probably use the green as further accent. Have you decided on your cabinets yet - painted or stained wood and the style?

The green sink is 42 inches wide. I was thinking of a 30" base with a maybe 20" (or so) wide single bowl undermount or apron sink, so there'd be a difference of about 22 inches of counter top.
The open space at the end is where I was thinking of putting a raised 18" DW with a storage drawer below it. I figure at least a 2" fill on the wall side to accommodate the door trim.
The window (TBA) will be somewhere in between 4 and 5 feet wide. Also considering a single deep tub DW drawer instead of the 18", fwiw.
(The program DH uses for the floor plan is at least 10 years old. Pretty limited but it works for the main floor plan measurements. Putting in specific items (like a raised DW)is nearly impossible.)

It seems like no matter what kitchen I've ever had, I tend to work in the same 3 feet to the left of the sink so that's what I'm trying to get. Right now in that kitchen, there is 30" to the left of the present sink and then 30" around the corner before the stove. We've been using the kitchen while remodeling the bedroom/entry side of the house this winter and I find it a bit short on space at the present measurements so I've been trying to eek out all the counter top inches that I can. Here is a pic of the kitchen as it is currently except all that 'decorative' stuff belonged to the renter and is gone. It's not the greatest pic but you can see how the general layout is.

The current window over the sink is like 3' wide. The SB is currently 33" wide. I want to widen the window (just leaving 33" for 12" deep open shelves on the stove wall and then an 18" upper between the open shelves and the left of the sink and trim)and move the sink a bit to the right as this will greatly improve my view of the river. Right now I have a great view of the backyard and front of the garage and I have to lean over to the right side of the current window to see the pretty river.
The counter top issue was one of the main factors in deciding months ago that the green sink wouldn't work and I guess I forgot that for a moment after Boxer posted that green sink pic.

After taking some time off from obsessing on this (ok, like a day), a thought occurred: Work the layout to perfection (or as close as GW peeps can get me, lol) and then see how it 'feels' in the house as a whole as we start to finish in the other side of the house. I know just opening up the 7 ft. dropped ceilings to 9 ft. and getting new windows in the side we're working on has caused me already to rethink some things that I thought were pretty much set. Wonder if I'm getting ahead of myself and then I feel bad that I'm wasting yours and everyone else's time since I change my mind so much. Hate to become that kid that cried "Wolf" and burn out my best resource for ideas... you all! Unless, do people get insane like this during this stuff or is it just me?

Here is a hand drawing of the kitchen emptied of everything but the doorways and window. It will be gutted to the studs so everything is on the table, so to speak.

Maybe I should just let G-Webbers have a field day layout-wise and see what someone besides me sees in this space? I think sometimes my imagination is constrained by what is already there.

There are probably layout ideas that have never occurred to me...

Deedles- Why don't you start a new thread, post your plan, your view, the range/sink and anything else you're thinking about using? Let everyone come up with ideas, using the vintage sink or the smaller sink. I don't know if you want a small dishwasher, since that's not going to make any difference with your countertops.

Personally, I'd use the big sink, so you'd have two bowls, one for dishes or plants to soak and the other for washing hands (so close to the mud room/entry) and rinsing veggies, etc. But, that's just me... :)

Oh, and don't forget the rooster wallpaper!!!

Lavender: thank you for sticking with me on this! I will post a new thread but I think I'll give everyone a break from me for at least the weekend. (We're going to be out there working this weekend anyway) It'll be interesting to see what different eyes see.
