It's So Hot I'm Ready to Scream

Before this year the record heat for today, January 16, was 84 degrees. Today it's 89 and, except for a brief hiatus of lower temperatures, it will be in the 80's for the next ten days. What happens after that is anyone's guess, but the heat is supposedly spreading across the whole of the continent, except for the far northern parts. It's very difficult to believe that we will get any more rain at all, and what will the temperatures be like in spring, summer and fall? Frankly, I'm scared. El Nino was supposed to save us, but the continuing high pressure system is keeping it far to the north. With drip irrigation my roses are not dying, just diseased, and at least with the smaller roses I'm taking off the older, sick leaves, and there certainly is new growth. Miss Atwood looks 100% diseased, but surprisingly there are some blooms peeking out from all that sick foliage. It's just all very strange and abnormal, and I'm not dealing with it very well.
