I know I probably went overboard, but I have been searching Houzz for shower/tub combos for myself if I decide to go in that direction. Most of these pictures have Master Bath titles - they tend to be small houses or apartments in large cities where space is an issue. They all have a generous sized tub. A few have extra shower bling and even a separate tub filler. All of them have material choices and the level of tile work that you see in a master bathroom. I'm sure that if I searched Houzz I could find just as many, or even more, remodels of small master baths where they have just built a walk in shower. I think the decision to do a shower/tub may be a personal choice because they want a soaking tub - since they are titled Master I'm assuming the bath is not the only bath in the house and they could easily just go with a shower. agree with ravencajun that there are some really nice handhelds out there that rival or even beat a basic fixed head, plus their utility for cleaning is critical to me. Another option is to place the handheld on a slide bar so you can adjust to different heights. This is especially nice for kids or folks with very different heights. Unless you have a wide tub, I would be inclined to go with a really nice handheld on a bar and the tub spout, otherwise as linelle pointed out it will get busy with so many fixtures. Plus you will need additional diverter valves and trim for extra fixtures and you may decide that money might be better spent on upgrading the shower head (or some other part of your redo) We went all out in ours, but it is a good sized shower only - but you can see what it looks like in the picture below with two fixtures on one wall. Our hall bath is set up like yours without a wall between the tub and toilet I did not plan this it was how it was put in in the twenties. You will need a two piece curve bar with a ceiling mount bar. I find two shower curtains with an opening in the middle of the front of the tub the best for keeping water from splashing out with my kids, oldest is 9. I have a cheap Costco railhead/ hand held combo which when aimed properly is never an issue. Pardon my bath it is nearly a hundred years old and shows it age. :( toilet at end of tub with curtain only Shower head combo which has worked well in ours Shower curtain set up that after much trial and error works with the kids unsupervised. Without the curtain my toilet would be wet so you will need something there I believe, either glass panel with glass doors or two curtains and wait for doors. i actually prefer curtains to glass for bathing small children and I also prefer curtain to glass for kids and guest who most likely will skip the squeegee process.

I would have loved to do that. Except, it will mean moving all the plumbing, including the toilet. And there is a vent next to the toilet as well that will need to be moved. It sounded like all that would cost a fortune. No?
