granite counter-top seams ... are we being too picky?
Comments (44)These are my pics of my countertops placed Friday June 22, 2018. I cried looking at these seams. It looks so cheap. Fabricator explains that's the way it comes. I explained that I shouldn't be able to see the seams so clearly. It looks so unprofessional. They ended up taking them back to their warehouse. In hopes they say if it is quality control will try and fix it just to make it look better. Otherwise I will have to pay an additional fee for them to come out again to install. I just don't know what to do and if still looks the same. This is the first time I've replaced my counters in 24 years. I don't and can't live with it. looking at this for another 24 years. It looks so cheap and it really was not it's a lot of money to me. I hope fingers crossed that they will fix this problem. They never told me that there would be such seams. I thought the edges were done by a machine and it would be all one piece. I have read up on this and now understand there are seams. But now I do know that they should not look like this. If they are good fabricator you shouldn't be able to see them so clearly. I will find out next week what happens....See Morequestionable fabricator of our soapstone counter tops
Comments (10)Florida Joshua installed our soapstone in May. We have a seam in our sink . . . . that you can't find. People have to search to find the 3 seams in our stone, because they are hard to see/feel. He used a black epoxy, it looks like your fabricator used white? And the bit about soapstone being porous and the water seeping in? Puhlease. False. Here's my sink. The seam is in the lower left hand side of the sink, about 3 inches in. Good luck trying to find it. This is freshly oiled. This is 3 months after install. We aren't oilers. As you can see, not having the stone oiled doesn't affect seeing the seam....See MoreTrying to Avoid Having a Seam in Granite Countertops
Comments (11)Jillius, that's a really good idea! The granite is 3cm. I bet if I put the back splash on the wall first then did a lip there with the granite, kinda like it is now, it would be just enough to cover up any seam I would have there. Right now I'm leaning towards just doing a seam in the sink, but if the template people think they can pull off giving me a 2" strip back there without it looking hideous, then I'll probably go for it. I hate the look of having cluttered counters, but we use our toaster and knife set almost daily, and that spot is where they sit now. So I really don't think it will be too obvious, but if I can see it and if it looks hideous, it will probably bother constantly just knowing it's there. I'll keep ya'll updated. You've all been so helpful thank you so much!! Love this forum :)...See Morecounter seams - inevitable?
Comments (13)I think it looks beautiful! I don't think you'll give it a minutes notice in short time. We tend to nit pick everything at the expensive, shiny new state. Can you step back 5 ft and take another pic to see how noticeable it is? Would you give up the counter rather than love it? When my marble was installed, I freaked out at every imperfection, but when the fabricator offered to pull it all out and give me 100% money back! That is not what I wanted. Unfortunately they had already pulled my island so I did lose that. I had no idea my negotiations on repair ever would have ended this way. So here is my seam that bugged me, and now I know it's not perfect, but just fine. From the little bit you've shown us, yours looks fantastic. What does the big picture look like?...See MorePaul F.
