Hi Lynn, I am so sorry to hear of your losses.. I have had a few of my trees have stem rot on a few. I did cut back to good wood and sealed. You all did have a terrible freeze and im sure it did have an effect on certain varieties like DelWH mentioned. They are all different and can tolerate temps in different ways. My stomach turns to hear of your Golden Pagoda. Uggg... I would cry too! So don't feel bad to be upset. We all feel your pain. My Taj Mahal also drops buds early, so it is happening here in VB as well. I love my TM, but it is a very sensitive tree. I would still have one and i will tolerate the bud drop for the beauty of this baby!!! Please keep us updated on your trees and i hope you do not lose anymore. We all know how much you love your Plumeria!! Oh.. remember the one that i bought from Germain? Well.. I think it is going to make it!! Hi Jen, Cmon, you know you want them both, so just do it, that way you wont have to chose, and if you only get the JJ 'Orange' your going to see 'Desert Sunrise' at a show or somewhere else and your going to kick yourself in the pants for not buying both. I have both, all 3, yes all 3 of my JJ Oranges are pretty small still. My 'Desert Sunrise' is probobly 3ft tall but I haven't seen blooms on it yet. It does have an inflo scar on it, so hopefully it will bloom next year. Hi Torqjk, We have something in common. We both like the orange plumerias. I like how even in cooler temps JJ 'Orange' can still put out nice colors. Glad I am not you visiting Jungle Jacks! It would be too much temptation for me! Of the plumeria James listed, I have a few Cherokee Geisha, Taj Mahol, J105, and Desert Sunrise. Only my Taj Mahol produced an inflo for me but it did produce 2 in one season. My problem with T.M. was bud drop. None of those buds opened more than 1/4 of the way, and that was only on 4 or 5 flower buds and the rest dropped. That plumeria seems to be pretty fussy. I thought I was the only person that had this issue, in fact I started suspecting an insect problem but it turns out that a lot of people have had this problem! There was a discussion regarding this plumeria and it's bud drop on the Face Book plumeria pages. Seems like the consensus over there was that this plumeria may not like full sun, but I suspect it also depends on where you live, if that's even the issue. I moved my T.M. to 3 different locations in my yard and it didn't matter, most all of the buds still dropped. I just wanted to give you a heads up on this issue with Taj just in case you decided to buy one. It is a very pretty flower and the shape of the flower is pretty unique. If your really going to consider buying a T.M. just talk to John and see what his angle is on the bud drop. Hi James, I bought Cherokee Geisha based off of Sonia Hang's pictures of it. I also remember you saying that she lives in an area of CA that gets very HOT, but I am hopeful that I can still enjoy the flowers to some degree. IF it blooms in the next year or so, I should hopefully be able to still keep it under the HPS lights, and maybe that way I can see more of the true colors. Andrew

David, I water rooted my JL Metallica with no issue, rooted in 6 weeks for me, similar to rooting a Jeannie Moragne. I also rooted a 5" tip that broke off, again water rooted. As for Butterfly Gold, it does perform well for me. I have read and heard people complain that it took up to 5yrs before it bloomed for them (Sonia and Lynn and many others). My BFG was grafted from Florida Colors, received it in early fall (Oct), then bloomed for me in July. Here is a pic of mine last season, I had just root pruned it and repotted so the inflos is not performing like it usually does with size and shape, but color is typical for me. I used Chris Durhams pic because of his intense color, excellent prime example of what a BFG should look like. My BFG does not get as much color but shape wise it performs. Again this was take the season I root pruned her: Flowers after transplanting were much smaller than normal but does get the shape (JJs Taj Mahal is good in cool temps), but this is about as good as it gets for color in my patch that stays cool in summer (avg around 76 to 82 max, with maybe 2 to 5 days a year of 90 degree heat rare to get to 100 or over.). I found that plumies that seem to have requirements to look like their parent tree in its original growing environment (hot and sunny) , like Shapes/Patterns/Colors esp purples, the longer you have a plumie and the larger it gets the closer it looks to parent. When Metallica bloomed for the first time looked saturated purple(but did have a heat wave for a bit), but is one of the best purples for cooler temps. Hey Laura....Waving @ ya.
