5-10-10 Best Choice for New Irises?
Comments (22)I hadn't used bone meal until last year after having dogs dig up a newly planted bed years ago searching for the bone. I decided to try it last year in a new bed. I got about 99% bloom in that new bed with plants I ordered last spring. This has never happened before, and I attribute it to the bone meal. What I got was bone meal powder and not the granulated form I used years ago. This may make a difference in the way the plant absorbs the fertilizer. I have never seen such weird ratios as 0-13-18 available in garden centers or co-ops. I have been having trouble finding 5-10-10. The lowest in large bags has been 10-10-10. Here lately during the summer, I have been shaking rose fertilizer (9-18-9) from the canister. It has been doing well in keeping fans green and not bleached out in the heat. There has been summer growth as well and not dormancy. My last application was in July and won't be adding this in the fall for fear of fast growth at freeze-up....See MoreHelp please with counter top choices
Comments (11)@enright5 - I know this is a few months after your initial posts, but I came across your posts while I was looking for photos of real life installations of Lyra and Lagoon Silestone. I can total relate to the original post. I love marble too and the look it provides, but it is not a good fit for my family. Knowing this I am not looking to trick people into thinking I have marble - just LOVE the general look and feel. SO what did you finally decide on?...See MoreThe elusive "Wow Factor"
Comments (87)The ever elusive wow factor~so do we want the wow factor to please ourselves or for others that see our home? Does a home absolutely need one, no. As was mentioned further above, if you walk into a home, and lets say the foyer looks like the Palace of Versailles, your expectations will be high re:the rest of the home. It it doesn't live up to such expectations, there's a major letdown. Model homes(usually!)are a perfect example of what I mean by expectations~every room is decorated, so there is no disappointment as you move thru the rooms. If you don't like the house, that's beside the point, but because it's a 'model' all spaces, including outdoor spaces, will be decorated. I'm of the opinion you can have a well decorated home w/o having a wow factor~I see them frequently on this very forum. They're not decorated 'to the nines,' just decorated nicely, with attention to details that may be unique and stand apart from other homes that may be professionally decorated. I personally don't like a home to look contrived, as though a stage were set and beautiful items seemingly set sporadically here and there, if that's been determined to be the wow factor. You *can* have things arranged in a certain way so it doesn't come across as contrived. If you *think* it's looking staged, than it is....See MoreWOW FACTOR for exterior of house
Comments (27)@JDS. Yes, you're right, I do make recommendations/suggestions. But like any recommendation or proposal, you can take it or leave it. It's a recommendation, not a requirement. My show is for new builds primarily, but, to my surprise, house flippers and people who are remodeling have also been listening. I am definitely not a "pro" in general, as I admit on my "About Us" page, but based on the criteria of this forum, bloggers/podcasters can be considered pros (I emailed the Gardenweb administrators before I set up my profile to confirm). And finally, yes, the info on this site is free, as is the info on my site. I am not selling anything-- just teaching folks what I learn as I do research for my own future project....See Moreplumeriai45
