lighting around surface mounted medicine cabinet
Comments (5)I see that you will have 2236 lumens with that fixture. It might not be enough. I have 2 fixtures at about 1600 lumens each (3200 total) and it is a little dull. I think it may be due to the thick-ish frosted shade. I have another bathroom with 2250 lumens and it seems to be better lighting. Different fixtures though, and both of mine are halogen. But Lumens are lumens I believe. If you are in doubt would you be able to use 2 fixtures and put them on either side of the cabinet? You could put it on a dimmer too. I really think your vanity/sink is a cute setup....See Morelighting over surface mount medicine cabinet
Comments (5)I have the same issue. The problem with the over the cabinet lights (two or three) is they are not designed to protrude enough from the wall to provide direct light, in fact the cabinet will likely cause a shadow line. Our cabinets come out 4 - 4 1/2 inches. I have a three bulb light I like and am thinking of having someone make a box that will match the cabinets. The box would be the same depth, surface mount, wood, stain and design as the cabinets... Has anyone seen lights that are designed for a surface mount medicine cabinet that do not look like the cheap exposed bulb or florescent variety?...See Morelighting to go above 54' wide surface mounted medicine cabinet
Comments (2)The site lightingdirect dot com has a search feature for bathroom lighting, 6 or more lights and I see some there. I strongly urge you not to replace it with this same style. It is so dated...that's why you are having trouble finding it. I just helped prep an older relative's home for sale and removing/replacing the strip light of globes was just about the only change the real estate agent suggested. Something like the one linked below is so much more attractive. My 3 light vanity light like this points down and the light at the mirror is great. I believe many of these can be installed pointing either up or down. Here is another one. Good luck! http://www.lightingdirect.com/hinkley-lighting-h5556-6-light-48-wide-bathroom-fixture-from-the-avon-collection/p933301 Here is a link that might be useful: vanity bar light 6 lights 48 inches...See MoreHelp! Can a recessed medicine cabinet be surface mounted?
Comments (4)I looked at the cabinet spec and the attachment point are on the front end of the cabinet box, so you would have to make your own holes in the back to attach the cabinet and be sure that the material will hold the weight of the box + mirrored door. Also the mirrored door is 8" larger overall than the box, so how do you plan on disguising that? I would sell the mirror and buy one designed for the way you want to use it. Any hacks will probably end up costing way more than just buying a new medicine cabinet....See Moresilken1
