Comments (12)Thanks so much for the comments. The blessings are all mine, believe me! Danihoney, that is similar to our son. He was integrated into the classrooms all this time, when he really should have been isolated. He too is a something else to watch and observe. He blows me away at times with his big heart. It is interesting to see which paths he takes from time to time, as it makes no sense to us. We are often trying to put ourselves into his shoes and it is so hard sometimes because we just don't get it. I really think that he would be higher functioning if he would have been diagnosed earlier in life. Although it burdens my heart, there is no need to cry for one single moment about it. We need to face each day being strong and ready for what life throws us. Right now I am not as strong as what I would like to be, but working on it. Thanks for the encouragement. If you can send the link to people you know, that would help them learn about Asperger's and Autism, I would greatly appreciate it. I think that she updates facts (on the left side of the blog) on her break at 8A. Thanks again!!!...See MoreI don't mean to sound ignorant but....
Comments (10)The incidence of autism spectrum disorders has gone up way to much to be accounted for by increased diagnosis, etc. A lot of people think it is the mercury in the vaccinations, but supposedly recent studies have shown otherwise. I have also heard the theory that it is related to the increased use of prenatal ultrasounds, which raise the temperature in the baby's cells. Forty years ago when I was a kid, we actually had recess, often up through 8th grade. If you are a high energy kid, much less one with ADHD, time to run around is absolutely essential. It also used to be safer, or at least seemed safer, to play outside for hours at a time or to walk home from school. Twenty years ago everyone walked to a neighborhood elementary school in my town, and there were school crossing guards. Now you would have to be out of your mind to let your 6 or 7 year old walk there, all alone, crossing busy streets by himself. Some things have improved considerably. When I was in elementary school, there was a boy who was absolutely obsessed with trains. That is all he talked about. He probably had Asperger's. Today he would receive services. Back then the poor kid was just considered "weird," and he was teased unmercifully. When I was 5 or 6, there were certain sounds I could not say. Today I would have been in speech and language like my daughter has been. Back then the teacher yelled at me for mispronouncing a word that everyone else could say. Kids who had difficulty focusing or organizing were called lazy, and often dropped out in high school. My child who has executive function disorder and a language disability recently graduated with an Associates Degree with High Honors. I am glad that I and the school system recognized the disability, and did not attribute it to laziness....See MoreCopy of a request for compute help sent to my Asperger Syndrome forum.
Comments (4)I hope this link works, Mudlady.. I'll test it before I leave this forum. But...if it doesn't...enter the "Kindle+Fire+for+Dummies" into any one of your search engines [i.e. Google, duckduck, Bing] and it should bring up a long list of "Dummy" books to assist you with the operation of your new Kindle. Additionally...there are a myriad of Dummy books explicitly for computers and their operation. To that...let me add...that you're doing far better...and are braver than me. :-) I don't own a Kindle [or any similar product] and my cell phone is still the flip up kind. I'm loosing my sight to macular degeneration and over the next several years...it's anyone's guess as to what, if anything I may be able to see/operate. But I do have your determination so I forge on...undaunted. Good luck with your latest project.
