I came across your post because I was searching mold on aloe plants. I just bought an aloe plant last weekend at lowes with an assortment of succulents that came potted together. I seperated all the succulents and divided my aloe plant into three little plants. I used clear plastic drinking cups to start off all the plants and repotted with miracle grow potting soil making sure to put holes in the bottom of all the cups a least 5-7 holes) All my other plants are doing great but I noticed, being that the cups are clear that the same green mold on your aloe plant is growing in all three cups of my aloe. None of the other plants have it. Only the aloe... Right now anyway. Since these have been divided and don't have much root development will the suggestion in your feed about the peroxide harm the plant or do you think it should be fine to use this method? Any other suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi Taco Truck, It looks like you have Euphorbia tirucalli in the strip - IMO, that's a liability as it exudes sap that's a chemical irritant/burning element. It's a plant that you don't want around moving people so much, but if everyone's aware of it, it's an awesome plant for the landscape. I love your idea about the strip, and it would be great to have that as an open garden, but IMO, that's the best place to have softer plants, or at least ones that won't cause too much pain. Barb...both happy and sad....Happy he is moving forward with his life. Knowing he will go far as long as he stays focused on his studies, and learns to quit being so wasteful. Sad because he is moving on and we will be seeing very little of him in the next 4 years or so. We havent made any new life adventures yet. House needs some TLC. I suppose first we will get used to having a home with just us and the critters and go from there. Chell I used to be a dog and cat groomer. I loved it too. But my employer was a deedeedee. Never had the money to pay me each week and always "owed" me. And she never gave me my tips either.Then at the end of the year she reported more earnings for me than what I had really made.Fortunitly I kept records and proved my case and won, so make sure you don't let the same happen to you. I have kept my clippers, blades and accessories and still will do a neighbors dog or two once in awhile to keep my skills up.....but don't miss the hair stuck in places I did'nt know existed....lol. dontocarebear - I'm glad you are getting the info you needed here, and many members had given you great advise. I don't mean to derail your thread on topics on the most economical or the perfect drainage cover for pots. Like Rina, I use those cheap insect screens that you get from the hardware store. I remembered initially buying it to screen my soil, but now, I mostly use it to cover the drainage hole. I bought a yard, and used it for all of my potting (about 40+ plants), yet still left with a quarter yard. There is a great deal of information regarding succulent soil. There is no right or wrong type to use, but generally most members here swears by the gritty mix Al had came up with (even I use it too). It works for most people in the US climate or general environment. The reason why we ask for zoning, it's because the states is too huge, and each state has a different type of growing environment. Personally, I would advise to you read on the following threads I have archived when I just started out. The first one might particularly be more helpful to you since that member also live in the Philippines. If you would like to read beyond this, try search members that live in the warmer regions, ie Florida or the South. Selecting a drier and more porous type soil, such as a Gritty Mix or modify it dryer will greatly maximize that benefit, as it would prevent molds/rot. Best of luck. Happy Growing! Bernard
