What do you think of this curtain fabric?
Comments (19)Oh good point.. woven vs printed. This is a very nicely woven fabric. I'd call it a light upholstery fabric.. but not so heavy that it couldnt be used for curtains. I don't see it being mcm at all -- but I am hoping it will coordinate with a room that has mcm elements. Here's my struggle.. my idea board doesn't go as mcm as my bf would like to go. There will be a mid century club chair (eventually, now I have a leather club chair) and likely lamps ... perhaps a coffee table. It all depends on what I find as the room develops. I don't see (or have room for) an additional chair covered in this fabric. I could use it in the dining area for a banquette cushion or dining chairs but I think it needs a larger chair surface given the scale of the fabric. So if I *don't use this for curtains-- what would you use for curtains in a room that will be modern traditional with a solid nod to the mid century? The room can't take a marimekko print. It's relatively small. I could see a small geometric print or an ikat.. but I think it's important to have a color that blends into the wall vs stands out. Here's a photo before I moved in.. We're talking about refacing the fireplace in stacked stone (perhaps to the ceiling)....See MoreUnique 80s Living Room Renovation Ideas: What do you think??
Comments (9)Hi thank you!!! A chandelier would look gorgeous, but I think the functionality of a fan wins out for us because with ceilings this high and a mountain climate, we need the fan to push the hot air down to the rest of the house in the winter. Is there such a thing as an attractive ceiling fan? (serious question!) I think we'll just put the little book case upstairs in the loft, which is desks and another book case anyway. So funny that y'all like the arches! We are so stuck on them. What do you think about squaring the one that goes to the staircase but keeping the others? It would sort of balance the visual impact of the other 4. Are you saying cover the beams with wood or just paint to match the room? or would you do another color? I have no design sense, but I see the potential too!...See MoreWhat do you think of either of these styles of curtains in this space?
Comments (103)@KW I never know how much info to give on Houzz when explaining something like this. Yes. I think it is a lot more complicated. Also, I have not found one website that talks about all the symbols. You really have to search for it but I think some symbols are very common on these doors, including the breasts, lock, mountains, and ancestors. I have two real Dogon doors, not the flour and salt version that I just created, but wooden carved ones. I purchased them years ago and made a headboard out of them. Just a few months ago I decided to remake the headboard but still included the two doors in the center. Both of my doors contain all the symbols above, other than the snake....See MoreWhat do you think of this ceiling wallpaper and curtain combo?
Comments (33)@palimpsest I gush of Queen of Spain every time I see it. Love that print but it is way out of my price range. I might be able to find a more reasonably priced wallpaper and fabric combo though. @Ida Claire, @mytwo cents I really like the velvet with a tieback, though I like Queen of Spain more. I think I am in for many returns before I find the right color. But I think a huge tieback with snakes and African figures could be fabulous. I am thinking a really tall tieback in the 3' range. Does that sound fabulous or more of a flop to you?...See Moreingrid_vc so. CA zone 9
