February, 2016 Quilting/Sewing Goals

I think we have all gotten a good start for 2016 and are continuing to get some great bonding time with our fabric and sewing machines. Isn't that great?! Think of all the money we save not having to go to therapy!!! It's a short month so go easy on yourself.

Get as much done on the Purple LW, the Girly LW, the Lightning Zig-Zag LW, the String Star, Herringbone, and Little Rectangles. Oh, and figure out which UFO I want to work on this month......... sigh.

Three of these are tops that need to be backed and quilted, 1 needs the rows sewn together, 1 needs the rest of the blocks made and sewn together and the String Star is a block I wanted to try and need to complete. And they are all small....24"X36" to be used in a NICU.

My goal for February is just to get quilting. Today I finished piecing this child's quilt using Bonnie Hunter's Scappy Mountain Majesties pattern and one of the alternate settings. These are all scrap fabrics from other quilts I've made. I don't know whether I'll just bind it or add a border. I've got time to ponder it because I won't continue work on it until I get home in April. It's not my favorite, but then every one can't be. Now I have to get started on one of the other four I brought to Hawaii with me.

March block lotto, trying a twister heart wall hanging and a quilt using star wars themed fabric for a nephew/godson. My Bernina is acting up, may have to bring it in for servicing, so I may have to plug in my old Kenmore.

Carol, Have fun with your twister heart......I really liked the one I made but so did my cousin. It's the month for hearts! :-)

Ok gals, we have a few days left in February to work on our goals. Next month we'll have 3 more days so start thinking about the next list of goals. Great going, Salijo!!! I am so proud of you! love2quilt, Good job on making and surpassing your goal list! I think you need to add to it next month. *smile* Bonnie, As I find bits and pieces or even little blocks already made up from when just playing around, I now think "CRUMBS" woooohoooo You think your dog will know the pillow is not a toy after you cover it??? You're fortunate to live close enough to your mother for visiting. Give her an extra hug from me the next time you see her. My UFO's are sadly neglected, but I have at least one thing done on my list and might be able to start another. I hope to have 6 things done on my New list by the end of the week and have completed a Comfort Winnie quilt (32"X45") and also a Bunnies and Bears (45"X58") quilt for great-granddaughter that weren't on my list...pic's in the Gallery. Hi. In January, I did manage to get one big top quilted and bound. Feels good to have it all done. Two more big ones to go. (thought it was just one more...my mind is scrambled!). Hopefully,will get another full-size top quilted in February. That`s about it for me. We are painting throughout the house and everything is "ÃÂ¬n slings"......as my mom would say. It's unbelievable how much stuff you manage to accumulate. I will be sorting it and trashing some and donating a lot. We have clothes that we haven't worn in years. Some people would be so happy to have them, so why have them hanging in the closets gathering dust. I feel ashamed that I have kept them so long. Hope all have a productive February. ~Geraldine

How cute is that paisley hip. Cute bunnies, V. You girls that don't make a list of goals are really getting things done! Hmmmm... I'm getting some quilty things done, but just one thing on my goal list. lol The Take Five top is completed, I decided what to work on for National Quilt Day, and then put all the blocks together except one and one more seam to connect the Rectangle LW quilt before making that package to Calif. Have also been working on a project for my cousin. I'm so excited. I'm almost finished cutting my scraps - just a ton of whites to do. My drawers of scraps are all empty except for folded pieces the size of fat quarters or larger. Okay, some of the folded pieces are maybe 1/8s, but it's still a huge improvement. Now I just have to resist starting to sew scrappy log cabins and get busy on the 2017 lotto blocks. I also have to figure out what to take to Hawaii with me this year. I have a scrappy mountain majesties to take -- i actually brought it to Hawaii last year and didn't do it -- and about half of my one block wonder. I mailed my stepdaughter's quilt to her on Friday. She should have gotten it today, but she didn't. Hopefully, tomorrow. The tracking app shows it still in transit, so I hope it gets there tomorrow. I sent it to her work place, so it wouldn't sit on her doorstep and someone would have to sign for it. I decorated the house for Christmas over the weekend. It's alway so much fun to take out the tree skirt and table runner I made. The tree skirt was the first quilt I made, so I'm very sentimental about it.

Hi Sharon.

I have the Illusion top finished. Now I need to buy backing. I also have string blocks made and I need to get those made into a quilt top. There are also block of the month blocks waiting to be put together. Lots to keep me busy.

I cut out a long-sleeve blouse yesterday, so that's next up to sew. After that I don't know what I'll work on - I have several WIPs to choose from, or maybe I'll start another! LOL

I plan to finish the blocks for my nine patch lap quilt.

Turns out we have to have some major repair work on the house this month. I hope it doesn't mess up my plans.

Hoping for lotto blocks and then another rather odd project. Will be a fast month, tho...have company coming in on Friday - staying a week +, so....... And then there will be more company. We'll see how the sewing goes!

Donna, LW is Littlest Warriors project that a friend started because her great-grandson was a premie and in the NICU for a few months. She started making quiltlets (24X36) to cover the incubators and protect their eyes from the bright lights. The parents can take them home with them. It is a great way to practice quilting and also to try new patterns. Right now I have 4 in various stages. It's a military hospital, so in a way, it counts as helping the families to cope.
