Flooring - Replace carpet with ? so I don't have to use 1/4 round

Please help! Just bought a ski rental property. Wanted to replace hall, living room and dining room carpet with 'luxury' vinyl wood-looking planks for their durability and moisture resistance. I've talked with so many flooring companies and no one ever mentioned the need to put quarter round trim around. I figured the glue-down flooring just abutted the baseboards. The house has pine baseboards that I just had stained. Walls were just painted too. I do no like the looks of the quarter round, especially when it doesn't match the baseboard, but matches the flooring. Is replacing the carpeting with more carpet my only choice? Is there any other flooring I can use that doesn't require the baseboard to be removed (or quarter round used)? It looks like ceramic tiles would be the same way. Thank you. I really appreciate it!

Why can't you get pine quarter-rounds that match your pine baseboards? Or is it just that you don't want quarter-rounds at all? Bear in mind that the "correct" look with any kind of wood, simulated wood, or tile flooring is to have quarter-rounds or a shoe molding. Traditionally, the only time quarter-rounds are not used is with carpeting.

I'm not fond of quarter round either but you might need something to cover up small gaps at the edges and between the baseboard and the subfloor. Consider buying shoemold and staining it to match your newly finished base. It's generally about the same height as quarter round but not as wide. It's a vertically oriented molding so it should match the baseboard.

Sounds like your doing O.K. with your plants. As far as taking the phals. outside or not, you will get people on both sides of the fence. I personally never took my phals. outside when I was growing under lights. I think you did the correct thing in bringing the oncidium and cattleya outside as once they get used to the higher light can take almost straight sun all day long. I don't know if you know it or not but the nobile oncidiums are easy to rebloom but due require a certain treatment to get them there. Please check out Yamamato Orchids. There is lots to read there especially about fertilizing nobile's only up to a certain date and then they need a 30 day period of at least one hour of cool weather. A few months ago I bought a half dozen of them out of bloom. This is the only orchid that I own that is currently outside in New York, U.S.A.

We're using a slab of back-painted glass for our backsplash too. Look for a glass shop that does mirrors, shower doors, etc. They usually do a variety of things and will have samples of all types of glass. They can back-paint the glass literally any color. They use an automotive paint called Chroma Base. You can bring a sample of your paint, tile, countertop, your favorite sweater, what ever you want, & they'll be able to match the color. They have a color chart but are happy to do custom matching. Also you can request Star Fire glass which has a low iron content & makes the glass very clear. The colors are more accurate because you don't get the green tint of regular glass. Or if you like the greenish tint go with regular glass which is a lot less expensive. We're doing a bright white so we're going with StarFire glass. The same shop is doing our backsplashes, shower doors, stair railings, & mirrors. Good luck with your project!

For anyone on a budget I suggest you locate the nearest (larger) Habitat for Humanity Restore Store. Another place to look is Goodwill. Inventory changes daily w/donations and sales. Some charity/church sponsored thrift stores also sell furniture. I didn't know these places existed until my Sister-In-Law suggested we stop. I bought a heavy solid oak platform rocker from Habitat on a furniture clearance day for <$40. (I sniffed the cushions before buying.) A month or so later I bought a sturdy solid oak floor lamp/table/combo there for $10. Sometimes there is nothing interesting; other times you find a treasure. It's well worth a look.

Thanks for the input. The space is just 75” wide and along the exit to our back door as seen here behind the curtain. We just bought this w/d set a couple years ago. Because of current space limitations, we had a choice of two models. The current set up leaves the washer door very low. About the height from the top of the basket. We deal with it. No kids, just the two of us so we’re not slaves to laundry. We should probably figure the countertop so that it could be removed and raised if needed in the future. That’s definitely something to think about.

I just had a flooring company in my home, as I'm looking to replace my flooring with luxury vinyl "wood". I have carpeting and laminate with quarter rounds now (which I also hate the look of). He told me they would install the flooring right up against the trim, so no quarter round is needed. I hope this helps.
