What is the difference between "white" and "arctic white" in American Standard's tubs and sinks?

This is really a question you should address to American Standard customer service. But, here is the answer: Arctic White and White are not the same color. AS tubs can be ordered in Arctic White. No other AS products come in Arctic White. If you want your sink, toilet and tub to match, order in White.

I purchased a white Kohler tub and a white American Standard toilet for my bathroom remodel. It didn't even dawn on me at the time that there could be 'different' whites until I put the toilet next to the tub. The more I stared at them, the more I noticed the difference in color, so I took the toilet back and purchased a Kohler. If you didn't already install the toilet, I would take it back, or if you already installed it, maybe you have another bathroom in the house that has an older toilet and you can put the AS one in that other bathroom? I know if I installed those two "different whites" in my bathroom, it would bother me every time I walked in. I also don't know if Kohler has multiple shades of white. I just looked at their website and clicked on a few different toilets and I only see one "white" choice.

I was told that they are "sister" companies and so it's not a surprise if they have crossover products. Another thing they do is re-brand imported tile under their own name. AO's Avenue One tiles are made by the Italian tilemaker Refin. You can buy the Italian version or the AO version but they both say Refin on the back! I have City View by Daltile in my bathroom and it's made by Atlas Concorde (they actually came in Atlas Concorde boxes and it didn't say Daltile anywhere!).

The quality is not top notch , for sure. Looks to be builder grade fabrication and install. Which brings in the question price point of the job and source for the product and labor. Budget builders have different standards that are handled by high production, mediocre quality, shops. Builders are about low cost and speed, not quality. For a higher precision homeowner quality job, gaps at walls of 1/8”- 3/16” and a bit of color variance at a small 1/16” seam is within industry standards. A poor color match repair and a chipped seam isn’t. Larger gaps than 3/16” at the back and wall isn’t acceptable unless this run is bound in between two fixed points that do not allow maneuvering. Builder level jobs have higher tolerances for gaps and seams than do a top notch homeowner grade job. If they can fix that color match chip and seam acceptably, the gaps at the out of square side wall are manageable. A backsplash will cover to the rear. And a bit of a float out in the crooked wall will deal with the side area if no splash is planned for that.

We have moved around quite a bit for work. We are getting ready to start building our 8th home and have lived in 3 others. Our last 2 homes, because of location norms and resale, we opted for higher end finishes. We installed Toto toilets and were very disappointed. They were noisy and, while they looked nice, we are putting in Kohler due to reliability, functionality and they stand behind their products. A few years ago we had a problem with a chrome sink faucet that appeared to be tarnishing. This was in one of the 3 homes we did not build ourselves. Kohler mailed us a replacement without any issues. They are not the top end but we plan to get as much Kohler brand in our retirement home as we can find that fit s our needs.

I would like to know that too ahealy11. I don't think American standard has a white that will match any other brand. Toto's plantation white matches American Standard white (which looks dingy to me) while Toto's Cotton white matches most others. I have no idea what Arctic white matches. Unfortunately I bought a Cotton white Toto toilet before I knew white is not always the same and now I want an American Standard tub : /

If they're not right next to one another, no one will no that the two whites are not exactly the same. In my last bathroom, I had a Kohler white toilet, Lenova White sinks and a white MTI jetted tub. No one came into my bathroom and said, your tub, sink and toilet doesn't match.

In my guest bathroom, I had a Toto sink and a Kohler toilet and again, no one could tell the difference.

Unfortunately, the white difference can be obvious depending on the light source :-( We just remodeled a bathroom and have an undermount sink and toilet by Toto in cotton white. The Kohler cast iron tub is Kohler's white - I was told by the fixture sales person that Kohler white matches Toto cotton. It does not... The Kohler white tub has a gray cast compared to the very bright white of Toto cotton. What a consumer should be told is that white in porcelain/china is different from white in cast iron. I love the Toto fixtures (Connelly collection) but it really bugs me that the tub looks so grayish... I have to see a Toto cast iron tub in cotton. If it is still a shade off, then I can live with the Kohler tub which was less expensive. But if the Toto cast iron tub matches better, then dang! I shouldn't have nickel-dimed on this one :-(
