My Thermador Induction- Heating Not Even???
Comments (12)Yea, Sorry about that Valerie, "CRS" kicked in again. I was thinking of "luvstoputt" and his Viking range, Shhheshhhh I wasn't even close!!!! Anyway, the copper does make a huge difference, or at least the "Emerilware" does. I have a "ranging inferno" gas , 2 burner DCS cook top out on the patio kitchen. It is "Open burner" although not the style of the Bluestar or Capital Cullinarian burners. With the aluminum pans, everything gets hotter on the outside edges of the pans and it never does equalize, so that which I cook out there I have to keep stirring or keep moving it, (Like bacon or chicken). This really doesn't bother me as I'm used to it and enjoy cooking outside. When I cook inside using pans with better heat distribution on the induction, I just put the food in the pan and forget it, till its done. IE, Long winded version of saying, it isn't the heat source, it's how well the pan distributes the heat. Gary...See MoreMy first impression of my new induction cooktop....
Comments (3)Congrats Tinker! Isn't induction wonderful? My 30" Thermador is due to be delivered this Wednesday. Can't wait to see it! I have been cooking on a single burner portable induction unit for the last 5 days and I am thoroughly impressed also. Regarding induction cookware, keep an eye out for when Sears has a special sale on their Kenmore Elite 8pc Triply Clad cookset. It is not kept in their standard stock, but becomes available only for special seasonal sales. It is a beautiful and high quality stainless set, comparable to AC, but sells for $100 when on sale. I love it! Picked my set up over Mother's Day. I keep looking for it to buy another as a gift but Sears CS says it will only come out a few times a year. I had to give up my extensive set of Caphalon anondized, but the induction is worth it! Glad you are enjoying your new cooktop... now start cooking with it and you will love it even more! :)...See MoreBosch 300 induction top & my new cookware (long)
Comments (14)sf3707: To add to what MizLizzie said, you might have a look at the link below to Bosch's specs page for the 300. It says the front left heating element (the 9" one) is rated to 2.2 kW (2200 watts) and can be boosted to 3.3 kW. The right rear (11" burner) is rated for 2.4 kW and boosts to 3.6 kW. The two 6" burners are rated for 1.4 kW and boost to 1.8 kW. You might also want to download and read the User's Manual for the 300 series induction cooktops. Go to this page: https://portal.bsh-partner.com/portalbD1kZSZjPTAwOQ==/PORTALFRAME.HTM and download the second item (the one with the biggest file size). As for using a 12-inch frying pan on the 11" burner, there should be no problem. As MizLizzie says, there shouldn't be any problem with using a pan large than the burner diameter. When MizLizzie pointed out that her Cuisnart pan was more than 12" across the base take that as a significant point. For induction burners, the important measurement is the diameter across base of the pan, not the ultimate diameter at across the top. Most 12" frying pans are measured across the top, but it is the size of the magnetic base that the burner's "pot sense" function will "see." The bases of many stainless steel 12" skillets will actually be about 9 inches or less. My cast iron 12" skillet is bit larger -- roughly 10" by my measurement and use on induction. Anything over 7.5" should be fine on an 11" induction burner. No problem with using the 9" burner, either. The one caveat is that, depending on how the pan is made and the amount of preheating you give it, and the kind of cooking you do, you might (or might not find) with a digital thermometer gun and a pan whose base is more than 12" across that the very outer edges (the parts beyond 12") might register a little cooler than the parts within the 12" area. This is very much a YMMV thing. For me, it has never been noticeable for what I cook, and does not seem to be one for MizLizzie, either, but other folks have, from time to time, seen this as an issue for their cooking. Comments (13)Mgoblue: I actually used RH Aubrey pulls for the drawers and the pantry, but all the cupboards got knobs, including the few base cabinet doors I have. I'm liking the combination. Sparking water: The hole for them goes all the way through the drawer so the screw can come in from the back, but there is a thicker part that sort of fits in the door and that's probably a quarter-inch deep. Thanks ERF! I must swing by ... it's been too long!...See Morenycbluedevil_gw
