One things for sure, you don't have a Meyer lemon. They do not come true from seed.

You're right. I still don't know what I have. I usually write citrus but I didn't want to bother myself today :P Still, I can't find anything on any citrus who doesn't have thorns...

Yup you have a mutant. when it fruits in 10-15 years the fruit will be some sort of lemon hybrid. If you're just growing it for fun or for the foliage, it should be fine but if you want fruit, you're better off buying a grafted/rooted tree that will produce Meyer lemons within a couple years.

It's not worth growing that long when you don't know how he fruit will taste.

Its fun growing seeds but fruit trees are much cheaper to buy than grow from seed. You will spend way more on taking care of it for 10 years than buying a tree and getting fruit in 3 years.

Hey, growing from seed is the best way to make sure you can keep something alive.

You could have some fun and try grafting Meyer or something else to it. But lemon roots don't make the best tasting fruit so stick with lemon scion.

My first ever tree is a lemon seedling I started about 6 or 7 years ago. Only about 8-10 years left until fruit! LoL. I don't have the heart to toss it now.

Since the Meyer is apparently a cross of lemon, orange, and mandarin, you could have any of those or none, or something entirely new. As virtually all lemons have thorns, I would guess something closer to the orange side of the equation. A couple of years ago one of my grafted Meyer trees produced a type of sweet orange (a sport); unfortunately the worker who picked the fruit failed to mark the tree.

Hum, that could also explain why the leaves have a very sweet aroma when I happen to crush one between my fingers :) Only 13 years to go before I find out ;)

Meyer Lemons are a cross between Mandarin and Lemon (which itself is an ancient cross between Citron and Pomelo).

For comparison, Oranges are thought to have originally been bred through multiple crosses between Pomelo and Mandarin.

If you grow from seed, the fruit will likely not be as sweet or have inferior flavor to that of its parents. The good news is that lemons tend to not be as bad from seed as other citrus types. Since Meyer is a first generation hybrid, there is a high chance the second generation could take more after either Lemon or Mandarin, though it is very unlikely it will be anywhere near as sweet as Mandarin. More likely, I think, you may get something as sour as Lemon but as watery and flavorless as a bad Mandarin.
