Front door. Draft and air leak issues

My front door has a door sweep but it still seems to leak a fair amount of air. Specially close to the bottom of the door.

Here are some pics that can explain this better.

outside. The gap is probably the big issue.

Another outside view near the hinge side (1.2in should actually read 1/2 in):

The last line is "is a little worn out"

AT present there is approx 5 degree F temperature difference between the bottom of the door and near the handle of the door. (using Black and Decker thermal leak detector gun) I can feel a distinct draft, If I shine linght through I can see it on the other side etc..

So here are my questions.

- Was the door sweep installed correctly? Is there supposed to be an air gap between bottom of door and the metal part of the sweep? If not, what steps can I take to fix the existing one or should I install a new sweep? What is this really supposed to look like?

- Or is there supposed to be some kind of "insulation" in that air gap? I saw some pics on the internet where there was a rubber block or seal in that air gap.

Any ideas or help is appreciated. Thank you for reading :)

Thanks for the suggestion millworkman. Yes. I was missing those till a few days ago. But I got them from Home depot and installed them on both sides of the door frame. Its been 5 days. I can still feel the draft and the temperature near the bottom of the door is still cooler than the rest :(ok. here is the picture showing the door corner foam tape thingy :)

It also doesn't look as though the cabinet underneath your cooktop is deep enough to house separate downdraft and cooktop units. Downdrafts are like 70's shag carpet. Everyone thought that it was cool at the time, but after a few years, everyone couldn't wait to get rid of them because of how awful they were at keeping your house dirty. In your case, there's an extra sin that needs to be fixed. There isn't enough room to pass by the cooktop safely, and no real room to prep on the island. It wouldn't pass a code inspection in a new build that way. If you go to sell, any buyer will want thousands off to be able to correct the issue, or it could be a complete dealbreaker to selling at all. You might as well spend those thousands now and enjoy a better functioning kitchen until it comes time to move.

Air drafts from ventfree fireplace

I have this same issue - there feels like a breeze coming in all around the fireplace insert. What is on your outside wall? My builder put what they call a doghouse on the exterior. My last house I had a ventfree and all it had was some metal housing with a cage type thing around it - it was small. I also went outside to see if someone left something off or whatever, and there is a metal housing that is HOT and you can feel the heat very well out there. I only have the pilot light on but I think there is more heat going outside than in. Since you haven't recieved a response, where else can we look for some answers to this problem?

Need to pull my H&G DV fireplace to fix air leaks... advice?

I have a heat and glow fireplace, standard builder equipment. Unfortunately the bump-out has the standard "not sealed right" problem of drafts and smells, so I need to pull the fireplace. Plan is to pull, measure the insides and verify insulation type and location, as well as the install of the firestop and piping. I don't believe they drywalled in the cavity, so if the measurements work, put up a vapor barrier and drywall. Then re-install the same unit. The only real issue I have, for now, is taking the fireplace out. It looks like I need to unscrew it from the framing inside of the bottom and top cavities of the fireplace, disconnect gas and electric, and the wall switch, which is all pretty simple simple. Then it looks like I might need to either just cut the high temp caulk between the marble and the fireplace or I need to remove the marble side pieces, but I'm not sure. What do you think? Do I need to remove the marble or both the marble and mantle? Or can I just slide the unit out after unbolting from the inside? If I need to remove the marble, I am not quite sure the best way to do it. It has to have some adhesive behind it and I don't want to break anything since I want ti to all go back right how it is.

Sounds like you are moving into my old house :) Regarding the tiny bathroom, our current house has very small (and windowless) bathrooms with 8 foot ceilings and one of them was painted a very pretty but dark copper color by the previous homeowner. The color was lovely, but combined with the small size it felt claustrophobic. After a year I painted it a light silvery blue and it was a big improvement. That said, it's not a guest bath, it's in daily use, and the combination of tiny, windowless, and lowish ceilings is a real doozy. If you've only got one or two of those features, the more intense color might be just fine. I think you don't have a lot to lose going with the bold color you like. You can always repaint it if the bold color doesn't work, and because the room is so small, you can do it very inexpensively :) I used Porter paint, which probably cost $27 a gallon, and I have enough paint left to paint the room over again if the light color shows wear and tear from the kids, or to paint some furniture :) Also, in my town, the Habitat for Humanity ReStore has lots of mistint paints from the better paint shops in town--I've bought gallons of Porter and Martin Senour there for $3. At that price, you can repaint the bathroom every week :)

What is the condition of the door sweep? Is the reveal the same vertically for the entire side of the door? Is the reveal the same on both sides of the door? What type of weatherstrip is that on the jamb?

Assuming you come back to read suggestions, here's mine.:)

I'd start over with new weatherstripping and door sweep. It appears
the existing is compression. Q-Lon compression is one of the finest
weatherstripping and available in most places. I use
compression/magnetic on my doors. A new sweep, cut to correct length,
will make a huge improvement. I prefer using the friction fit door
sweeps instead of screws or adhesive strips. A fiction fit is forever
adjustable without removing the door.
Also, before you install
new weatherstripping, be sure the door slab is square in the jamb
opening. The reveal should measure very close to exact on all three
sides. Adjust the hinges to improve the fit.
