Can't commit to knobs and pulls-- opinions?
Comments (2)I can really see why you love those old ones. I can't say whether they'll break, but modern door glides greatly diminish the forces a handle has to handle... Instead though, how about setting them off even better in a less-used position on a nice old chest or other piece of furniture? They'd make something made of nice wood look very special. Regarding committing to others, you don't have to. That's the nice part about not spending $35 per pull and more. Buy something you like in a standard size. If you're dissatisfied in future, you can put them on Craig's List and replace them with a new choice....See MoreOpinions on cabinet knobs / pulls / handles
Comments (9)Your kitchen is similar to the one we are ripping out (and the only reason being is the cabinets are not functional and they are literally falling apart). But I even have the same knobs as you in my existing kitchen. I love the look of them but I like the pulls you have in the first pic a lot more. You could do the pulls on the drawers and the knobs on the doors. I've seen hardware mixed like that before and I like the look. I will say this, at 5'4" tall, my belt loops ALWAYS get caught on the drawer knobs in my kitchen (honest! at least twice a day this happens!). When it comes time to pick out hardware for our new cabinets I'm getting pulls to avoid that. My opinion may be biased because of that little tidbit, but I still think the pulls give it just enough punch without taking away from the look of the cabinet....See MoreOpinion needed - knobs or pulls
Comments (1)The bottom line is that either choice serves the function of getting doors and drawers open. There are kitchens that do all of one or the other. Most people do a mix, commonly knobs on top and pulls on the bottom, but there isn't any solidly good reason for that. I like pulls on the bottom because it seems more ergonomic to me, but we've had knobs on the bottom and that worked fine too. Actually, I think we had knobs on all the doors (incl. the bottom cabs when they were all doors) and pulls on all the drawers. It's really a matter of preference and looks. Now that I think about it, we've had knobs on various dresser drawers over the years and I found those drawers harder more time consuming to open and close. One of the nice things about this forum is that there are photos of the different choices people have made so you can look and see what you like or don't. Comments (13)Six inch on all drawers and doors except for the large drawers. Would use one 8" centered on drawer. I am advising that because of having just redoing my small kitchen. Was going to put two small pulls on big drawers, but a professional cabinet guy advised to use the larger handle; he said that normally when people are opening a drawer with two pulls, they will use only one pull because they have something in one hand and can't use both hands. He advised that this type opening with one hand would eventually cause a "warp" in the drawer. So your husband is right about that. I considered using knobs, but decided I like the look of all pulls the best. Pulls on doors are in vertical position, pulls on drawers are in horizontal position. It really looks good. Would post a pic, but the kitchen is still in a mess....See Moredaisychain Zn3b
