looking at the snow.

Big snowstorm rolling through my neck of the woods! Shoveled a bit last night, but with the wind gusts and snow throughout the night, my efforts disappeared. Made just enough of a path out to the deck this morning so my little dog (a cairn terrier--a 'Toto" dog --could go do her business. Now preparing to work from home (I work for a newspaper, so if the computer and wifi play nicely, and the power doesn't go out, I can do this). So I can't shovel today -- hopefully by Sunday the snow will end, but I understand the next batch is a heavier, more dense snowfall. I made some "taco soup" a couple days ago, so that'll be my reward if I get through this work shift! (Taco soup being: browned ground turkey, a packet of taco seasoning, can of kidney beans, chopped onion, can of tomatoes w/diced japenoes, some corn, a cup of water and some smashed garbanzo beans (or chick peas, which my family called them.) Trying to keep birdfeeders filled . The birds are out in this blizzard eatting like crazy. They look like riders on a wild carnival ride. Feeders are spinning and going up and down, they hang on tight. The ground feeding bird are enjoying everything that comes their way.

I made some squash soup yesterday, worked on a new puzzle, and shoveled 9 inches of snow from our 1/10 mile long driveway. Today I shoveled another 12-14 inches and am ready for some lunch. (and a nap)

Staying in as it's too windy and cold to go out. Unusual for me, but should be 50 tomorrow and I'll get out. Been in since Thursday.

Made white chili yesterday. Today I am thawing out Tuscan bean soup and will have cottage cheese with crushed pineapple and crackers.

Beautiful sunny day here a little cooler but lovely compared to other locations.

Today we have a few stores to go to, then dinner out some where. Tomorrow is my husband's birthday, I am going to bake a brown sugar spiral sliced ham, dirty rice, field peas and a little sweet potato for me.

I keep telling him he better decide what he wants because time is running out. He has today to get something. He is so hard to buy for, he rarely gives me ideas or suggestions.

Since the snow is so high , I can hardly open the door, I won't be leaving the house at all.

It's about 65 here...Southern Colorado...yeah, go figure....sunny, warm. Our daughter is coming to visit tomorrow, lives a couple of hours away, so I'm getting ready.

Well, still snowing here at least until late tonight. So I am making my way through my to do list. Weeded and filed papers, walked the treadmill while watching Downton Abby, had lunch with DH, watched my neighbors shovel, spoke with DD's, updated my book list, worked on the kitchen plans. Yup, a wild party going on here. I should pack for my trip to Florida. We are heading out on Monday if I can get out of my neighborhood and flight is not cancelled. I hope my snow plow guy can clear the driveway tomorrow too, if not DH and I have an awful lot of snow to shovel.

To memorial services today. *Sigh*

There's a storm blowing by in SoCal, but I'm too far south to get more than a shower. Staying home mostly, anyway, though I'll go out sometime. Cooking tomorrow.

I promised myself a year ago that I would make sense of our music collection. I finally got started on Thursday and as of a couple hours ago have 204 cds all cataloged and in 34 cases that hold 6 cds each. Am all out of cases, but there is about 30 more cds that need a place. Unfortunately those cases (or 'magazines' as they are properly called) are no longer made. Going searching on ebay again. Got some there a few years ago.

Still snowing here in Arlington, VA. Close to two feet. I am knitting mittens for my sister and my step mom. Will line them with fleece. DH shoveled twice yesterday and twice today. Poor guy is sleeping but will go back out tonight. Having fun posting pix and sharing info on Facebook. A distant cousin in Belgium emailed to make sure we are OK, so our storm is in the news in Europe!

It's in the 60's in the SF Bay Area, alternating sunshine with scattered showers. We are finally up to 100% normal rainfall for the year so far, which is a big improvement. Last month we were only at 44% of normal. They say we only need ten years of 100% total year normal rains to make up for the 4 years of drought, sigh.

Slowly finishing small details of our multi-room remodel. It takes me forever to get that last 20% done, LOL. I do a little here and there; we like how the rooms are coming out. After almost 30 yrs in the same house the decor was getting tired, or maybe we were just getting tired of it!

DH got Bananas Foster pancakes as a special treat this morning, with a side of maple-brown sugar sausage links. Tonight is a slow-roasted leg of lamb rubbed with a mix of curry spices I'll never be able to duplicate again, since I was using up dribs and drabs of three different Indian curry pastes.

Tomorrow it's simple egg scramble with spicy Portuguese linguica and a dinner of leftovers - I have football games to watch!

The quail let us sleep in until 6:30. I started in on some 'housekeeping' right after breakfast. I'd only done a little tidy-ing, and we've been here three weeks now. The condo interior is only 849 sq ft, but it still has to be spiffed up, and there's the lanai to be hosed down and courtyard raked. I vacuumed, vac-dusted *everything*, mopped tile floors, did two loads of wash -- including my slippers, which turned out *great*. DH did the bathrooms. We just had a 'leftovers lunch' while watching news of the tremendous snow in the East. Now...I think I'll take a nap!

we were out before 9 to be at costco at 9:30...got gas ($1.45) and then spent under $50 for pantry and our flavored sparkle water items...we only shopped for 20 minutes and did almost every isle...been home and plan to stay in aside from breakfast out tomorrow...laundry is calling me for dh...did most of mine earlier...

it will be interesting to see the football game tomorrow. I can't believe they'll still play outside...

Turned 75 today! Went out for lunch and ribeye at home for supper. NO snow from the historical storm here in very upstate NY. We are still seeing some grass through the little bit of snow that is on the ground. I think we are getting the good side of El Niño, but don't know how the mega storm figures into all that.

Happy Birthday Wantoretire_did! We had a nice 50 ish sunny day. Those of you in the storm have my empathy.

I did nothing today, too cold! We even had show flurries in Fla!

I am working on finishing a cute baby blanket I have knit for my son's good friend. It is porcupines on a field of stripes. I need to attach the "quills" next, and make french knot eyes and noses. I also finally washed the curtains for the upstairs bathrooms. One set that I bought from BB&B a few years ago fell apart in the machine. So I ironed the other set and put them up and ordered a new set from Country Curtains. Now I am washing the curtains in the guest room and will iron them tomorrow with my new Sunbeam iron that is impressing me so far.

I am leaving sunny but at the moment rather cool Florida and flying home.

A bathroom remodel.

wantoretire_did - Happy Birthday! It's my birthday today as well. I turned 63. I went for a run this morning and my DH took me out for Greek food tonight. My kids both called to wish my a Happy Birthday so I had a great day.

blfenton, we also share with Princess Caroline and Mariska Hargitay. Happy Birthday! One son is in NJ and had 20" of snow and still coming down when he called mid-afternoon!!

Happy Birthday Wantoretire-did and blfenton. I'm staying in. It's too cold out for me. I just gathered up all the trash for pickup tomorrow and later I plan on washing my hair and doing a load of laundry.

Happy birthday, birthday girls. We aren't doing anything extraordinary today. Jody is going to be watching tv (football) and I will probably be on line looking at horses. We worked on the pasture fence this morning. The mule has been getting out....we thought we had found and fixed that place, but today they pushed the fence down and the 3 mares and the mule got in the pasture with Bane and the donkey. Got that fixed and fixed another place in the fence so we can pen them up in the barn lot at night. I don't worry too much about them getting out and going anywhere....they don't but horse stealing is up around here and I would never get over it if someone stole one of them. Of course, they would have a rodeo on their hands if they tried to get one of them (Gypsy). So got the fences fixed and put them in another pasture back here near the house.

Digging out!!!

Yesterday it was cold and windy so I did laundry and went to a surprise birthday party last night. Today I decided to scour my bathroom.....ugh! My dh uses a ton of baby powder and it gets everywhere. I rolled his rug up and sat it by the front door and told him he had to shake it out before it went it the washer. Now I am just wanting for the rugs to dry and then it will be all done.

What I planned and what I did are two completely different things. I planned on scrubbing down my kitchen. Instead: yesterday I lounged around all day until we left to go to a surprise birthday party for my husbands aunt. Then today.... well, I only put clothes on an hour ago because it's easier to cook dinner in a pair of jeans and a tank top than it is a housecoat. I sat on my couch downstairs and watched Forensics most of the afternoon, while colouring a picture in my Enchanted Forest book. Dinner is in the oven and I might do another load of laundry. Maybe. Probably not.
