Comments (15)I decided to repot them all into a better mix and better groups last Friday, I didn't want to water them in to a mix that wasn't good to I did a more thorough root cleaning and a better foundation. The jades have their own home now. The semp will spend the winter all alone in a very frosty south window in the basement. I don't know what else to do with it and not sure if it can go outside in my zone over the winter or if I wld have enough time to harden off it off. If it should perish....I plan to redeem myself with a succulent rock garden in it memory. We bought a house last year with a south facing yard and have tons of landscaping rocks on 3 sides and an island of them in the back. We both really, really, don't like all these rocks, but where can we put them all?? Is it a blessing in disguise? After reading so much in the forum I feel like I know you all a little, everyone is so nice and helpful, so I will share another picture of what I have in store for my gardening future. I have so many ideas! My DH is a farmboy in the city so we will have some fun. Mr. B says hi! All the leaves dropped in a week, we had some drought then some snow. I got a fire pit and tree skirts as wedding present from DH. He did it while I was away for the weekend. How do you say, "Thank you, I love you so much and I hate tree skirts? You don't, everyone worked so hard and filled it full of flowers! I hope to use some of that labor for helping in the garden when we get one. Did I mention it faces south? All I will do all winter is research, plan, discuss. 2 year, 5 year, 10 year, etc. I hope to share my progression either here or somewhere on these forums, this IS where the experts are at!...See MoreEveryone ok? Storm damage pics. I hope so. Please share?
Comments (13)Hello Everyone, Mike, Im so sorry to see all of the damage to your beautiful trees. Im sure it was awful feeling like you had no control of the amount of snow building up on the trees and hearing all of the limbs breaking. That is a awful thing to hear... Last winter DH and I were outside knocking off the snow from the fronds of our palms. The heavy amounta of snow plays havoc onthe trees that still have leaves on them. Like someone else said, mother nature knows what she is doing when she sheds the leaves, this time the timing was off just a bit. Thinking of you and all of the others up north who are still without power. I hope that the other Electric companies are all coming to the rescue to help you all get the lines and power back on real soon. Take care Mike, Hi to SISSY!!! Comments (11)LOL, thats great Kat. Those cherry tomatoes grow just like a weed. Give em lots of water to keep them cool and you will be eating Cherry tomatoes before you know it :). Gardengimp, what a great looking dog man. I've always had dogs and cats. I am just a real animal lover. I am starting to find out that I have the same love for plants. Each little plant I bring into the world is like a little baby to me. They each have their own little personalities, likes, and dislikes. It may sound a little strange I guess to think of my plants like that, but it gives me a real sense of pleasure to care for them and nurture them to fruition. As for the walk ways I'm using my irrigation/drainage trenches for walk ways. I'm sure it'll end up being a pain in the ass but I will make it work until I come up with a better plan. I will also be able to reach things from outside of the cinder blocks. As for the plots that you see there in the picts, Each plots will have a series of mounds/rows on top of them. Each mound/rows soil will be tailored to the specific plant that will be grown in it. For example, in plot 6 (My berry patch), I will make the bluebery mound/rows soil quite acidic. while the strawberry mound/row will not be quite so acidic. Each row/mound on top of the raised plot will be made of a mixture of loom, manure and straw, and the sandy soil. That way I can adjust the PH level to where I want it. Anyhow that's the plan my friend, remember this is my very first attempt at this so I'm learning as I go. I will talk to everyone soon. Take care everyone. Comments (25)Sorry, if I'm repeating anything, because I didn't read all the posts. The room lacks personality. And yes, you have a lot of different styles. I have two adult kids and a 4 and 6 year old. I love the rustic, distressed look. It works well. Since you already have the masculine, leather sofas that can't change, this is what I would do: Go to home depot or lowes and buy matchstick blinds for texture. They are not expensive and are very in right now. Then go to buy some drop clothes (yes the type painters use) and hang them up on either side of the match stick blinds. I would use black rods. The drop clothes are simple because you don't even need to know how to sew. I am also a huge fan of craigslist!! I would get rid of the coffee table and find a large ottoman. Preferable, on that opens for storage of games, toys, blankets, etc. Make sure it's not leather. You can even make one yourself! Then, I'm sorry but the recline is crying!!! I would invest in a slipcover for her, also not expensive, and make it in a softer color like a sage green. You need more color in the room. You also need texture. All your surfaces are smooth! The leather is smooth, the floor, etc. I would remove the picture over the fireplace and replace with a big mirror with a wood frame. And don't hang it just lean it for a more casual look. The room looks to formal for a family room. Also I would like to see a nice rustic style bench on the short angled wall under the clock, which I would take down. Sorry :) The bench could be a distressed white with wicker baskets underneath for kids storage or craft storage. I would love to see family photos over it with different style fames, but in all the same color or wood color. ie, black frames, but different sizes and shapes. Or instead of frames, you can do floating shelves, also cheap and easy to make and lean photos up on it and you can interchange. I would get rid of the greenery on either side of the mantel and put up a chunky candle stick holder (3 in different sizes with blue candles to bring out blue in slate surround) I would also throw a throw over the sofa in a nice plaid or chunky solid one. No more than 20 dollars at tjmax or marshals. I would invest in a few pillows that had color on them. i could give you more ideas if you want, but one of my babies needs potty help...See Moregreenclaws UK, Zone 8a
