Bookcase with Glass Doors
Comments (6)Retail is hard for us to recommend. Bcs I have no idea what sorts of stores you have. But you might look into a unfinished furniture store. These guys charge less than $200 for a small bookcase w/o moldings and only a little bit more for a bookcase w/ a little bit of molding on top and sides. And their glass doors are only . These are glass only--no wooden frame. A plate-glass store might help you w/ similar doors. And you could find out what the unfinished-furniture place would charge you to make wooden frames (and either they could supply the glass, or you could have the plate-glass place supply the glass which might be cheaer). These guys are local to me, and they're a chain, and in NYC, so I don't know how their prices compare to unfinished-furniture places elsewhere. But bookcases are the simplest thing for such stores to make. And that furniture is generally VERY sturdy. Mail-order options are easier for us to recommend. I've had good luck w/ inexpensive furniture from Home Decorators Collection catalog. Even the assemble-it-yourself stuff has been fine in terms of quality. Not fine furniture, but I'm not embarrassed to have it in my living room. http://www.homedecorators.com...See MoreWraparound or Folded Glass Window - Where Do I Get One?
Comments (10)I don't think it's load-bearing - in my window the whole central post is a wood 4" x 4" and deeply recessed on both sides, but how do I know for sure? (I'll try to get pics of the actual window up soon). Wow, Marvin Windows and Doors makes a corner unit made of a single sheet of glass with a small-radius curve at the corner - not even a thin line where the two flat panels of glass join (page 3 of this PDF). That's a "bent glass" corner? But I don't see many vendors for either type. Who can sell me a butt glazed corner window in the eastern US? It's about 4' tall, and each side is 3' wide. I'll settle for a thin strip at the intersection; don't want to spend a fortune (though I would have sprung for the expensive bent glass if I had the view like the one I showed!). How much more $ are we talking about for butt glazed vs. 4x4" post?...See MoreConestoga people, how did you do glass cabs? They don't do glass?
Comments (30)kachme7, we have sat down at length with the Sherwin Williams color fan deck and have determined that a very close match to Conestoga's Crystal White is Sherwin Williams SW7002 (Downy White). Ben Moore or other suppliers may have some close matches too, but we have not sat down with their color palette yet. Downy White SW7002 seemed to be almost spot on in most lighting we looked at. Now, it bears mentioning that these are what we (cabinetjoint.com, not Conestoga) determined were close matches. Conestoga will not guarantee their material matches Downy White in any way. I would think it would be very dangerous to put Conestoga finished product on cabinet boxes done with SW's finish as the chemistry (and therefore the aging process) will be very different and you may end up with very different looks after a few months/years as Latex/oil based paints from Sherwin Williams will age and mellow in very different ways than Conestoga's Catalyzed Conversion Varnish. I would suggest perhaps refacing the boxes with Conestoga finished veneers or refacing molding OR buy all your product unfinished and then finish it all yourself to ensure a good match among all the components. Also remember that Conestoga is laying their coatings down with a sprayer whereas you may be considering brush applied materials to use on your boxes? Brush applied finishes will change the sheen and texture vs spray applied and therefore the color can be thrown off, so putting Conestoga finished doors on your home-finished boxes may result in a very different look, even if the colors of the materials are almost spot on. Just some things to be mindful of! Let me know if we can help in any way....See Moredo you have a sliding glass shower door?
Comments (15)Thank you Chispa - I will look to see if there is someone that installs that kind around here. The person that came out today said that the sliding would not work because the shorter side is still too long. It is a rectangle, but I guess too deep? he is saying we should put the door all the way to the right and it will be the most frameless and the door will swing in and out. But I think the showerhead is more over that way that is not the best answer. (I probably should have hired a designer and figured all of this out in the beginning :( ) I love the corner door that chispa linked. I need to look in to that more. thank you all for the help!!!! :)...See MoreFori
