When we remodeled our master bath, I couldn't wait to get rid of the rolling framed door. The track is just another thing to clean. I think a frameless surround would show off your tile and will be easier to maintain.

I agree with Wilson853. The track will get gross, and is difficult to keep clean.

I disagree. We have a 5x8 bathroom so space is at a premium. I also like to turn on the shower from outside. Despite our contractor's suggestions, we went with a sliding door and don't regret it.

I see frameless as taking up space and easy to leak.

I agree with Spanish - have one, love it, and it's not hard to keep clean at all.

I think of sliding doors with those bottom tracks that get all gunky, but maybe there are newer kinds that are attractive. Frameless doors look sleek and high end, to me. What is it you don't care for in regard to frameless?

In the photo your shower looks square(?), where would the slider go?

What will the sliding door attach to? I have only seen them used in alcove showers with three walls with the top tract anchored to two studded walls on each side. Is it possible to mount the heavy hardware needed for the sliding frameless onto a glass panel? If so go with your preference there will be maintance either way.

I have a sliding door in my very small MB. It's about 12 years old, a cheapo from HD. The track does need a bit of attention, but I suspect they've been improved since I got mine. Mine is also not frameless, and I honestly don't care. It has never leaked anywhere. I don't have enough room for a door to swing without putting it in jeopardy from banging into something or someone. I like that I can adjust the water without getting into the shower. One day I want to redo this bathroom and replace the glass entirely with a curtain. But if I change my mind, I will go with another slider.

We always had sliding shower doors and will put one in this new build although for the moment a curtain is working well. In the 'old days' the tracks were multi-channel and difficult to clean but that's no longer the case and they keep getting more and more streamlined. We're in the habit and have always used a microfiber cloth to wipe down the track after each shower - takes about 30 seconds - and never had an issue with build up.

I've only had them on bathtubs where they can be a hassle (and they were the old school style) but I think they're totally fine for showers. I'm probably uncivilized but I like being able to put a towel on the shower door and being able to reach it from the inside.

Fori, the towel rack on the door! Exactly. As I think about replacing the glass with a curtain, I have towel hanging space issues.

I hated the sliding door that sat on my tub. That was ugly and the track killed my middle if I needed a quick shampoo over the edge. But now I'm a tub/shower cloth curtain convert.

In retrospect we should have put a sliding door on our shower. That would have solved all my issues, but the cost was already higher than we anticipated. We ended up pinching pennies that we would not normally pinch.

Is that a pocket door going into the bathroom? Part of the reason we remodeled was to eliminate two pocket doors. Hate those things on rooms that get lots of use. Bathroom doors are the most used doors in the house.

Thank you Chispa - I will look to see if there is someone that installs that kind around here. The person that came out today said that the sliding would not work because the shorter side is still too long. It is a rectangle, but I guess too deep? he is saying we should put the door all the way to the right and it will be the most frameless and the door will swing in and out. But I think the showerhead is more over that way that is not the best answer. (I probably should have hired a designer and figured all of this out in the beginning :( )

I love the corner door that chispa linked. I need to look in to that more.

dchall_san_antonio I don't like the pocket door all that much either, but we really stuck mostly to the original layout. we were not really expecting to remodel this bathroom so soon after moving in but it leaked!
