Comments (31)alishaes - have you made your decision yet? Sorry for my delayed reply, I just saw your question. I agonized over a roof decision because every roof I viewed look different than the samples I received from Certainteed. We opted for Charcoal, but upgraded to Pro....it was only an extra $700 and the warranty was much better for such short money. I could not be more happy with my choice! Even though Charcoal is the darkest option, it's not TOO black. Also, it doesn't have SO much variation that it looks super busy. I'm not home because we're living at my parents' during the renovations, but if you're still undecided I'll try to get you some pics....See MoreAnyone build a Sater Home? What do you think?
Comments (14)Hi floddedgutted, I don't know if you're still reading this thread, but I took another look at the plan linked above and it strikes me as very impractical for a family with children. For example, there is no front hall closet and most important no mudroom. When kids come inside from the back yard, it looks like they would go straight into the living/dining room. And there's lots of wasted space on the 2nd floor (that big gaping hole, and a sun porch off the laundry room?) I don't mean to pick apart this plan and you might have moved on anyway. But when you look at house plans (or existing homes) I would urge you to think about how you live your every day life... What's the path you'd have to take to get from the car to the kitchen with bags of groceries? What's the path from the front door to the kitchen (where guests always congregate)? Where do kids dump their shoes, jackets, and backpacks when they come in the door? After working in the yard, where will you come and take off your dirty shoes, etc? Maybe I'm biased, but with 2 kids my entire remodel was based on the fact that I wanted a mudroom and was tired of all the shoes, sports gear and backpacks landing in the front hall or the kitchen. I think in a previous post you mentioned you have 4 kids, so you'll have twice as much stuff!...See MoreHelp Choosing Roof Shingle Color
Comments (37)fun colors, The heather blend is the last one on the right next to the cream/yellow (more cream) siding. Holding it up to the house and the siding the brown did not seem to be right. Out of frustration, I picked up a timberline dark brown at home depot and that brown did not seem to work either. Read on the net, don't have the link, that roof color will appear 1 shade lighter and/or appear 1 shade lighter shortly after installation. So . . . if the moire black would fade a little, would be a plus to me. It's either the A/C bills or the algae. Figured I might have to change to green or other shade of red for door with roof change. Pretty sure neighbors will not be anticipating that so more explaining may be in order. There is some work involved, not all fairyland magic. Anyway, the main reason for the red door was when you have the exposed door with no overhang the black door gets hot as HE_L and bakes like it's in an oven. It was originally black which looked good for color, but the color was melting. The roof extension will probably allow for more color selection. The red is popular here. Everyone comments on how they love the red door and many in the neighborhood immediately painted their door red too. Must admit it stands out a little too much with no landscaping. After the roof, the next outdoor project will be bringing in additional soil and replacing the walkway. It has cracks, sadly, concrete does that. We love the color brown, but in sample form those browns did not look promising. Keep in mind, trim and gutters will stay white, so let me know if some roof color selections will look bad given that consideration....See MoreStruggling to select a roof - need to make a decision by end of week!
Comments (53)I am leaning towards CertainTeed landmark pro Charcoal black because it is grayer it’s softer than miore black although it will look black in the shade and clouds. Miore black has a lot more variation than what I am looking for. This has been a tough one for me as well. I called Certainteed they gave me a bunch of phone numbers of companies who have used Certainteed charcoal and miore Black on residential roofs to get addresses in my area. I drive around to look at these which helped a lot!! They are close in color but the moire black just seems to much in darkness and variation. Charcoal black just enough variation and softer... CertainTeed customer service agrees. I had the higher end Timberline charcoal as 2nd in line. I like it but I am looking for the best quality and I feel I’m getting that with CertainTeed landmark Pro. BTY THE COLORS BETWEEN LANDMARK AND LANDMARK PRO ARE VERY DIFFERENT! So when you read everyone’s comment make sure they are talking about Pro or Regular Landmark. I dodged a bullet after figuring that out!!...See Morebardzil
