Need opinions on repainting cabinets from 50's
Comments (5)I just painted my cabinets with satin paint from Ace hardware, eazycare about 25.00 a gallon, I removed all doors and hardware, sanded and primed and they took 3 coats with a small foam roller and brushes for nooks and crannies. Took approx 3 days Phew, I would recommend a color to hide the dirt, I used a chamois yellow for the top cupboards and backstage grey for lower cupboards, sounds strange but looks GREAT....See MoreAnyone repaint their brand new cabinets?
Comments (7)SunnyAlberta, what actual color are your cabinets? I love them. I see you are very distressed over this, and wonder, is it because you visioned a lighter color? More crisp white? You don't want to be unhappy and sick every time you see your new kitchen, but is it because it's not all there, or because you see yellow every time you go in? I'm going through the cabinet color decision as well. I don't want them to look yellow, but I have stark white cabinets now and they seem cold, stark, and dirty to me. I see peoples kitchens on here that I drool over, have many of them saved, and some are true cream, some more white, and yours look much like the creamy white that I long for. For instance, Breezygirl, beekeeper, alabama, beagles, and others I can't remember off the top of my head who seem to have beautiful "off white" cabinets, Then you have mythreesonsnc, mtnredux, and rococogirl who have more cream, gray and I LOVE them all! It's the hardest decision ever. Have you looked in Houzz and searched cream cabinets with the colors you are using for your counters, floor, and backsplash? You mind find the combos will tune it all up and give you some peace of mind with yours. I hate this for you, and hope you get some good insights from people here who have gone through the same thing....See MoreRepainting Wood Chairs
Comments (17)I painted my maple desk chair with a garden variety satin paint (Duron), following all the rules (sand, prime, plenty of dry time between coats). The finish was always gummy. When I repainted my oak kitchen chairs, I also redid that chair. I used the same technique, but changed the paint to SW ProClassic semi-gloss. The finish on all the chairs is smooth and durable, though it has chipped in spots down to the wood, possibly indicating that I didn't sand well enough. I had planned to use BM Cabinet Coat (lots of good reviews on that), but there was some purely logistical problem. Maybe it comes only in gallons? Can't remember. But that paint might also be worth considering. I love your chairs, and think they'll be even prettier with a new paint job!...See MoreHELP! Do I repaint the cabinets or do I paint the all doors and trim?
Comments (16)JudyG Designs what is a light warm grey that has the right undertones to minimize the heavy yellow in the antique white? My plan right now will be to keep the cabinets the antique because this is the 2nd time they've been painted (the first time the lady did a terrible job and I had to fire her and have her work removed) so I am worried about painting them a 3rd time. So I will paint the walls a light color that compliments the cabinets and gives them a whiter appearance. Paint the trim the antique to remove any stark white, paint the door a dark grey with the right warm undertones, the ceiling creamy white and next year we will replace the back splash to something simple that is either mix of white and cream or like a creamy herringbone. What do you think?...See Moreneetsiepie
