It really is hard to tell through photos, especially with whites. And you really do have to take into account your room's natural lighting.

This is boring advice that I'm sure you've read a hundred times, but getting samples and painting large sample boards with each and looking at them in the room is the best way to go. Or getting a full door sample from a cabinet company as opposed to just a stick swatch.

I wanted a white that was warm without being yellowy and have been really pleased with the factory painted finish from Plain & Fancy cabinets in Buttercream.

Seems like BM White Dove is a popular white - that doesn't appear too white. I think I'll start there first.

More boring advice………I strongly suggest hiring a designer for an hour or two long color consult. They will come to the space with large swatches for you to see in your home with your light. They will also be able to narrow the choices down for you tremendously based on what you say you are looking for. I spent hours agonizing over the color of white for my cabinets because like you I could choose anything I wanted as they were custom. Every time I thought I had made my choice I questioned it. Worried about the undertones. Was it too cool, too warm…….It drove me nuts and I thought I'd never be able feel confident about my choice.

My person helped me tremendously. I also had her specify a color for the walls. It helped that I'd already narrowed down what counter top I was going to use and also what backsplash I wanted. She approved those choices and then just needed to find a cabinet color to coordinate with them.

Not boring at all.

I had a designer in yesterday - and TBH, she didn't help me a whole lot. She had some great ideas for other areas of my house - but from a color standpoint for my kitchen cabs, she liked the creamier white, even though all the photos in my idea books are more on the white-white side. I just need something in-between.

I really like the color on my walls - it is in my kitchen, FM and DR. It took me a long time to find the right wall color - and I'm sticking with it.

You need a designer who is willing to do just a color specification. Not all are because because they are busy with "bigger jobs" but most are smart enough to know that a good job helping on one project can lead to bigger things later. I'd search around on Houzz for a designer in your area and then reach out the them with exactly what you want then to do. They should be able to give you an hourly price for their time. Maybe I just got lucky but mine was so helpful. I could trust her to see the undertones that I never felt confident about. Ended up with a Ben Moore color that was nowhere on my radar prior to her coming. She just had her big old swatch book and could quickly narrow down my options. Just query a few designers and see how they respond to your request. Hopefully you will find one who seems open to the job and willing to listen to you.

Jpmom, would you share the color you currently have & like on your walls? That may help some of the folks here determine what white might work well for you.

I get a lot of natural light and don't have very much wall space b/c I have lots of windows. Even in my kitchen, there is little wall space.

If you have a Sherwin-Williams or Ben Moore store nearby, I believe they both often offer color consultants.

Have you looked at Sherwin Williams Dover White?

When I need colour advice from a designer, I usually go to my Benjamin Moore retail outlet. They have designers working in the store as sales people with loads of experience and can usually tell me what colours have which undertones, which are warm/cool, etc. If I want them to come to the house to help, they will charge a fee, but often I can figure it out from the free in store advice.

Paint changes color depending on amount of light, use, cleaning products, at least IME. My cabinets that were stark white are now a softer shade. Wondering if you get too "creamy", if you'll end up with yellowish.

When I was mulling over whites, I narrowed it down to 4, all BM: 1) Mascarpone (too yellow), 2) White Dove (too gray) and 3) Simple White and 4) Cloud White.

Simple White and Cloud White were my finalists. My painter painted two old cabinet doors in each color and they lived on my kitchen counter in various locations for a couple of weeks. I loved them both, could discern a difference, but couldn't quite say how they were different. I went with CW, and it was more an emotional decision. SW is whiter and if you want something with a little less cream, it's a very good choice. It's not a stark white. If you search GW for Breezygirl's kitchen, you'll see it in action.

BTW, 4 years later and I still love Cloud White and would choose it again for a white kitchen.

I want to heartily agree with cpartist and not pit the two (or more) colors against one another. It's not a contest, and in the end you will only have one of them. Don't compare. Instead think about how each one makes you feel, give each one a chance to audition for you on its own merits.

Maybe I missed it in the previous comments, but what color are your counter tops, back splash, pulls, appliances?

I think it makes a difference in choosing cabinet color.

We have sherwin Williams alabaster on the cabinets, I love it. we are still under construction but here is a photo. Dover was way too cream for me, it looked yellow in my house. I read alabaster was the closest to BM simply white, I love how they turned out.

I chose BM Simply White. When looking at the chips, my designer said NO! Way too white! I ignored her and got a larger sample only because it was a colour that others here have loved. When she came back, she loved it too - didn't realize it was the colour she had nixed earlier. I also have a friend that is a designer. She loves the "creamy white" that I chose. Both are very experienced and highly regarded designers. All I'm saying here is, you have to get a big sample into your space!

By the time I got to choosing which white, I'd already chosen my backsplash tile & counter top material, so, that made choosing the white easier - it was whichever white looked good with both the counter & the tile, and tied them together. If you've already chosen other finishes, that could be your determining factor. I ended up going with Crystal White.

Carrie B, who is the manufacturer of Crystal White? Your kitchen is very pretty. Out of curiosity, how big is your sink if you don't mind telling me?

Yes you need to look at samples in your own kitchen. Everyone seemed to love White Dove so I bought a quart of that color (they wouldn't do a smaller sample) and painted test on my cabinets - it looked awful in my kitchen! Sickly greenish cast. I ended up choosing BM Simply White. But whites are hard - you need to choose it with your light and your materials.

BM Chantilly Lace might be worth considering

Kelleg - Crystal White is one of the colors used by Connestoga, and several cabinet manufacturers. Apparently, it is very similar to Sherwin Williams' Downy White.

My sink is: Elkay (8" deep, left drain placement.) Technically 25", but the interior width is about 23". Small by today's standards, but just fine for me in my little one butt kitchen.
