I have been fighting scale which invaded my greenhouse for about 3-1/2 months now. Tried many things, including the Bayer Advanced systemic spray. I think I may have lost one or two plants, but am on the way to recovery. It is my opinion that since this is a systemic product, and the OP has completely repotted all plants, repotting should not be necessary. I would advise removing the visible offenders with alcohol swabs in conjunction with at least a 3-week systemic spray treatment on all leaf surfaces. Regarding the pictures, these leaves are very stressed. I have had some success with wrapping phal leaves with wet paper towels, re-wetting by misting the towels heavily a few times a day. It may not work, but is worth a try. Since you have critters, be sure to destroy the paper towels afterwards. Ann

Hi Watergal, Yes, citrusy is good, so are the piney and rosey ones, probably any of the strongly scented ones. The only one that i'm unsure of, was strawberry, which is very mildly scented. Some greenhouses that sell herbs, often have a few scenteds. Who knows, you might get into them. Put the scented G. pot, next to the clivia, and take a couple of the scented leaves, and put them between the straps, and wherever the mealies are worst. You can tear some up if you like. As long as the scent is on the leaves, they work, even after they dry out. When the scenteds need more sun, leave an extra leaf, and rotate the s. pot out [that only happened in the winter]. I hope you try this. It can't hurt. This is so light, that you can use all the other treatment ideas on this thread, too, at 3 or 4 week intervals. In fact, it seems to activate or strengthen them. But, Go real easy on the concentrations. I tortured my guys that I lost, with 50/50 mixtures, of vinegar and water, and even stronger alcohol, and water. A 10% mix of white vinegar and water, IS effective, and a good combo with the scenteds. Neem Oil is really good too, and mixes up well with liquid fertilizer, in a bucket. If you have a good leafy shade spot outside, where you can keep an eye on it. you could try that. Actually, we set one on it's side [it seems to promote growth and branching, I don't know why], to keep most of the rain out, between a shrub and the house. The eaves, protected it from most rain, but it could enjoy the dew. It loved it. Love the idea of the Murphy's Oil Soap. It has a hint of citrus scent too, and the alcohol was harder on the clivia. You might start with a spoonful, in say, a pint of water, and see how it's tolerated. Dont go over ~10% on the alcohol. Pepperomia, what were your proportions? These proportions are just a guess. I sprayed a year ago, and used a mixture that was way too strong. Toni, as usual, you have such great advice, I've been a quiet admirer of yours, for years. Excuse me John, but don't know what either of these comments mean "and who is we do you have someone in your pocket" "sounds like you didn't knkow what is was, right" am NOT looking for a problem or trying to judge anything, I'm so sorry, yikes! Somewhere here, there is a request about not double posting, though I don't recall where.

Oy vay, life has been sooo busy I haven't gotten to come back here and reply at all. Just wanted to update on how the plant is doing: It's lost about 10 leaves or so. Some of them showed damage, so I think it was the bugs rather than the alcohol since it's all bottom leaves that came off, nothing up top and the entire plant has been getting alcohol-ed. So far, I only saw mealies on two different days. Day one, and day two. I made sure to directly get the ones I could see swabbed off with an alcohol soaked q-tip as well as general plant treatment. I have been periodically checking all my other plants just in case I missed it long enough for them to spread, but i've not seen anything on anyone else yet. The plant is currently hanging out in the livingroom all by it's lonesome and probably will be there for a month or two until I feel more secure. It's sitting around bare rooted right now, but I am giving the roots the occasional misting with water in case the extended hanging around with nothing is hard on it. Thank you everyone for the advise! Should I continue to spray it with alcohol mix without any sign of new mealies in so long? How long should I do so, if so?
