Is this safe to install and where to safely get it ? Do I need any of the programs that seem to want to install with it ?

Before you choose Install Now, uncheck the McAfee virus software unless you want it.

It's safe, providing that you are absolutely certain that you are getting it directly from Adobe and NOWHERE ELSE.

You can try completely uninstalling Adobe Flash ... Followed by restarting your computer. Download the full installer and install it. Adobe Flash Uninstaller tool; http://download.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/support/uninstall_flash_player.exe Adobe Flash download for Mozilla browsers; http://download.macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/current/support/install_flash_player.exe Adobe Flash download for Internet Exporer browser and some IntantMessengers too (active x); http://download.macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/current/support/install_flash_player_ax.exe At least then you can know you have Flash installed correctly. A script on this page is behaving poorly .. doesn't necessarily mean adobe flash is causing the problem. Windows has built in scripting. - And - You have a popup blocker and advertising blockers that block some scripting and that is usually the cause of that type of message - combined with poorly written page code to avoid causing that problem with adv & popup blockers. Another words its a website problem usually.

First guess: Are you installing the correct version; I.E. vs. Non-I.E.? If you are doing a "run-install" you absolutely have to be downloading the proper version. If you are doing a "save-install" you can use any browser to download-save-install either version, but it will only effect the target browser.. In my case I have FF, Opera, Google, SlimBrowser and I.E.9 installed on the system so I have both versions of Flash installed. Use the tool below to uninstall whatever you currently have installed. Going back to my tech support days, you need to clear your flash cache, if you are on a page containing flash you can right click on it and get into your flash control panel that way, there might even be a control panel for it settings>control panels, lastly if I recall somewhere on the adobe flash download page I think on the left there is some sort of settings option there, click on it and it'll have a bunch of tabs. You probably want to clear the cache out and see if that helps. You could also try add/remove programs, uninstall it, reinstall/reboot. Have you edited your registry before? Did you back it up first, to a separate disk? You can do very bad things messing with your registry if something goes wrong.

Be careful about adobe updates & where you get them www.adobe.com is a good place. My sister once had an update popup for adobe... was genuine ransom ware.. what a pain that was.

Well, that's a loaded question. Do you need Flash? It's basically built into many browsers now (Microsoft Edge, Chrome and derivatives) so you don't need to "get it". For Firefox and IE, you still need to download separately, but make sure you're actually using sites that need it. It's probably the most common way to get a virus browsing the web today and is a major pain to keep installing updates (sometimes daily) and restarting your browser to get the new version. If you don't need it, it's pretty simple to not install it. If you do need it, or it's part of the browser you're using, you should consider getting a flash blocker extension so you can only enable the actual flash content you want - much safer.
