Large Hedge, Evergreen, Red & Green Leaves

D M

Cutting down a hedge in Northern California. It's evergreen, with a mix of red and green leaves. Bunches of very small (1/8" - 1/4" across) white flowers in summer. Grows 6-8' per year. I used to trim it to ~10 feet high twice a year. The reason I ask is that I'm not sure, but touching the freshly cut areas with my bare hands "seemed" to irritate my skin the next day. I remembered Oleander and got worried and looked it up, but this doesn't seem to match Oleander. Couldn't seem to pin it down by an internet search so I figured I'd try here. Thanks.
