if you give a mouse a cookie....
Comments (16)Boy does this sound familiar! Our little mouse story goes like this... Our kitchen reno actually started with a basement bathroom--7 years ago! When we moved in, there was just a toilet, and we wanted to make it an actual bathroom with walls and such, since it is a bit off-putting to use a potty just sitting out in the open. LOL. So the adventure begins when we have to dig out all the old pipes and replace them all the way to the street, as our pipes are crumbling and only held together with the tree roots that have invaded. I start to get the idea that a simple stand-up pre-fabbed shower unit was not going to cut it, and I really was lusting after those large, deep soaking tubs. I convinced DH that as long as we were putting in a new bathroom, let's make it a magnificent dream bathroom (or as dreamy as you can get in a basement-LOL). Well, since we have the walls and ceilings exposed, this would probably be a good time to add a bath up-up stairs, and then the boys could have their bedrooms up there. Perfect! Well, maybe since we have finished the upstairs bath, perhaps the main bath could use some updating. That looks fabulous, but did you notice how loud it is when someone is upstairs? I think that we should have our master bedroom up there, and the kids can stay down here, but let's move them into the former master and make their room an office. Yes, let's! Ewww, did you notice how positively grungy the living room seems since all the other rooms look so fresh and bright? It really does. You know, now that the living room has a facelift, this might be a good time to take the wall down between the kitchen and dining room. It only makes sense. Well, now that the wall is down, and we will have to replace the flooring, we might as well make some changes to the kitchen... Someday, we will finish that "dream" basement bathroom and come full circle on our home project, but you know if you give a mouse a cookie.......See MoreEEEK!!!..A mouse in my makeshift kitchen!
Comments (3)I had one in the bathroom while it was in disarray! First thing I did was tell the barn cats that hang out by the garage door to get busy OR ELSE! Or else what I don't know but I didn't see the mouse again. If they can catch them out in the pasture they can catch one before it makes it into the house! And this was in July. I'd hate to think what it would be like now....See MoreReal Men Say "EEK!"...
Comments (24)I like it. I like that it doesn't fit into the current design box. I like the way the entire island is designed as to provide some interest though I'll concede that the edging around the sink may be a little too deep. It looks as if the cooking area would function really well though we don't get to see the rest of the kitchen. Ref and pantry placement. Of course this is coming from someone who for one of her many, many aesthetic iterations of her (hopefully very soon to be) kitchen remodel has putty cabinets, rojo alicante marble, butcher block, brass, and stainless as her finishes. So one could see why this kitchen is appealing to me. Many probably consider those dated finishes but done properly that have a great amount of charm and part of this particular iteration is to look as if it had been done a while ago. Like I said before....I like it!...See MoreSpin-off from the Mouse in the glove compartment (long)
Comments (5)Enjoyed your story. It brought back memories of my encounter...I'm going back 50 years. DH was in the army and we were in a teeny tiny apartment in Fort Benning, GA. I was baking Christmas cookies. The apartment was so small, I didn't know what to do with the cookies I baked, so when I was done, I decided I'd set a platter of them in the oven until I figured out where I'd store them. When I opened the oven door, there he was swinging on the rack like he was in a gymnasium. I slammed the door shut, ran to the bedroom terrified, shoved some bath towels under the door and stood on the bed till DH got home. How irrational is that?!!!...See More- 8 years ago
