Windows Explorer in W10

My laptop with Windows 10 issued yesterday a note saying that Adobe wanted to upgrade. I said to proceed and it downloaded a file that I was then supposed to open in order to start the upgrade process. Well, since Windows 8/10 have no Windows Explorer, I have no way to find or browse thru folders or do file name searches like I used to. Worse, I no longer remember the file name but I thought that, if I would browse some folders with the word 'download', I may find the file or at least a file created yesterday that may be "the" one.

How can I do those things now?

I think if you right click on the start button and select File Explorer from the list it may help you.

Where is it? I tried looking on the left and right-hand margins of the screen.

Before W10 was installed (by the way, I have never used W8 or 10), touching the left-right margins of the screen showed different "things/displays" so I am now confused. Not sure if what I see is supposed to be displayed but, when I touch the left hand margin, a small window displays.. titled Skype. If I touch the right-hand margin, something called Action Center displays. But I do not see anything labeled start button.

I used the IE10 preview release on Win7. Made a shortcut to the 64bit version pinned to the taskbar & used it exclusively. I'm a IE believer - because its so easy to remember the version# &channel name, unlike firefox heh. The only problem I seem to ever have with IE has been occasionally this garden web site and their advertising. Very aggressive ads here with popups, popunders, popafters, poponload etc scripts to try to beat all the advertising and tracker blockers everyone uses. There is only one site right now that my IE has issues with - when you close the garden site web pages here, it apparently has a popup or a persistence that seems to want to intrude and spin the mouse, that can and will crash IE tab sometimes. I'm trying to get into the habit to load my home page onto the tab, rather than close any gardenweb page tab as its really messing up my reliability index to the point of anger/hate.

I assume you have tried this:- Click Start click All Programs look for and click Internet Explorer. (near the top of the list) If there you can also right click on it and click Pin to Taskbar in the pop up menu If it is not there click the folder on your bottom task bar near the Start button to bring up Windows Explorer click the plus sign beside the C: drive on the left side in the menu dropped down below click the plus sign beside Program Files click on Internet Explorer to highlight it now look on the right side and right click on iexplore and in the pop up menu click to pin to Taskbar. Done.

I sometimes get that message when I have a loose connection, either with my cable modem or the Linksys router. It will clear after checking the connections and/or pushing the reset button. Just my 2 c's. Bejay

Runaway NDSTray.exe, time for W10 Upgrade?

Thanks, I have used the Task Manager to terminate it, but I had trouble finding it listed in any "startup" list. I used "msconfig" to gain access to Start Up and didn't find NDSTray.exe. On the Windows 10 side, I received the 1.5T Western Digital USB HDD, really small, hard to believe so much data can be stored in such a small space without creating a "black hole" Ha! The 1.5T is formated NTSF so I went right to making an Image of subject W7 Toshiba. This took about a hour, size about 70 GB, small potatoes on the 1.5T storage. I then figure why not also do a customized W7 backup... the W7 backup remembers (can identify) that the backup it created on the Flash Drive isn't available... so now I have to figure out how to make W7 forget about an old backup it did. Welcome advice, but will search the web later. I have multiple uses for the 1.5 T, one is the Toshiba W7, another is a Gateway W8.1, another is an XP. All of these want NTSF, still it seems like a good idea for me to partition the space to something like 100 GB for W7, 200 GB for W8.1, and 50 GB for XP. Then I would allocate something like 100 GB for reformatting by Linus so I can use that space for a boot device for Ubuntu, Xubuntu for the XP machine. I might as well split up the other NTSF into a couple other devices for future use. I was disappointed to learn the Image has all the information buried under the Restore cloak. That is I couldn't find any way to use the file manager and look inside the Image for stuff, say My Pictures for an example. So I open another folder and started copying all the "stuff" in W7 the I would like to simply access, oh yes, I also used W7 to create a Transfer which can be used to move from one computer to a new one. Or to a new OS, but I assume the Microsoft W10 upgrade will take the necessary steps to transfer my applications (those that work, will look up Palm Desk Top to see). Still, having lots of space I make a Transfer, it too cloaks the information below is administrative software. We live in interesting times, old saying but more true with each passing year I observer after observing many passing years.

The start button is in the very lower left corner of the screen on the task bar, it looks like 4 little white windows, right click on it.

Oh! Cool! I never touched the lower left margin area of the screen but now I did and saw the bar display as you said! I then clicked the 4 squares/windows and saw the File Explorer. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! :o)

Luis, In the Taskbar (Same Bar as the Start Button is in) you should also find a Icon with a Picture of a Folder, clicking on the Folder will take you to File Explorer also!

Windows 10 isn't all that different from other Windows Operating Systems like Windows 98, XP, Vista or Windows 7. They do have a couple of things that are Labeled differently like Windows Explorer being named File Explorer or My Computer/Computer is now labeled This PC!

Don't be afraid to click on a few things! You may want to consider watching a couple of videos on YouTube about using Windows 10. They can help you tremendously. Windows 10 Tricks and Tips

Yes, thanks for reminding me about Youtube. I have gone to Youtube before but the videos or non-Youtube articles that I selected were either not useful or too complicated so I stopped going there.

Sure won't hurt to watch a few Videos and Try their suggestions as you go (pause the Video and try out what they're teaching you)! Use the Link I provided above: Windows 10 Tricks and Tips (just click on the Green: Windows 10 Tricks and Tips to the left).

Sometimes finding useful things on YouTube depend upon your Wording when looking (same as a google search, it's all in the wording)!
