Equator laundry detergent
Comments (6)I've never heard of this brand; is it sold online, and/or is it available in stores? I like to buy Sears Ultra Plus HE detergent, which comes in three formulas: Stain-Fighting, w/Oxi-Clean, and w/fabric softener. I've used the first two and really like them. I paid $12.50 (which was half price) for a bucket of the stain-fighting formula which gives at least 275 washes, more if you use less than a scoop - which most people here seem to do. I paid less than $10 for a bucket of the Oxi-Clean formula, which gives at least 120 washes - again, more than that for people who don't use the whole scoop....See MoreIt's official...I HATE Charlie's Soap Powder Detergent
Comments (154)I find this thread discouraging. I started using Charlie's Soap due to recommendations on this forum, but the vehemence of the opinions here is hard to figure?! Does anyone consider why they have such strong opinions about laundry detergent? Or whether they feel these strongly worded comments are actually helpful to the forum? Clearly, some of the difference with results has to have something to do with the difference in water from one community to another. Hard water, soft water, heavily treated water have to make a big difference in how a detergent works. I have seen a few comments here that point out the basic reasoning that many people had in using Charlie's soap, but it bears repeating. Using a detergent that has fewer harsh chemicals and less negative effect on the environment and the water supply. And the second big reason was trying to escape the overabundance of products that cause reactions to the skin from who knows what ingredients. What I want to use as a laundry detergent, is a product that cleans clothes well but is made from natural ingredients that do not affect the water supply or the environment. And definitely, a product that rinses completely out of the clothes so that there is no residue to sit on the skin and either provoke a reaction or be absorbed into the body. It would be more helpful to me, to read comments from someone who actually knows and understands what is in these competing products and what affect they have on not just cleaning the clothes, but do they affect the environment and do they leave a residue that can cause a problem for the skin? And I'm also trying to avoid fragrances. I really dislike them across the board, unless they are natural fragrances, as in coming from essential oils or something. I don't wear perfume and I find it difficult to spend time in a room with someone who does wear it. Bottom line - this thread did not help me figure out which detergent is going to help me have the laundry experience I am looking for....See Morepinol w bleach & other Mexican laundry detergents
Comments (9)All the Mexican detergents that I have are powders. I did have one foca liquid from walmart last summer I did not care for it, it didn't clean anywhere near as good as the powder on stained dish towels but did ok for light soils.I think I gave it to hubby to use in garage, I also had liquid roma that really was poor at soiled laundry, but the bottle said it could be used to clean bathrooms, counters, and floors. I used it with a bit of borax in the tolet, it worked well and left the room smelling clean....See MoreTesting soap instead of detergent
Comments (5)Washing Soda has a higher Ph than Borax. I do agree that people who use this home made detergent/soap are not dosing high enough. However, it occurs to me that if I was hand washing, I would only be rubbing the garment with the bar of soap, and in all reality not using much of that bar at all. So technically, in my mind, for a whole load of wash, you really do not need a ton of bar soap. It just makes more suds to rinse. However, I do think that front loaders and top loaders need totally different dosing simply because of dilution. Secondly, the liquid version of this home soap is wayyy more diluted than the powered. There is no way in hell that a half a cup of that liquid would clean the average soiled load of laundry. All that said, years ago I made this home made stuff because I was barely scraping by financially. I had a traditional top load washer, made the liquid version, 1/2 cup a load, and with pretty hard water. Six months later, I had gray whites. Mainly white towels...and I could not reverse it. I ended up throwing them out because that was the first (and last) time in my life that I had ever, ever had dingy laundry, and I was embarrassed. I was also cloth diapering at that time, and had zero issues until the tattle tale gray took over. I never had a sour smell or absorbency issues, but I did not use any additional softener with it. In my honest opinion, I DO think you can get, and maintain, clean laundry with the homemade version, IF you know what you are doing. All of the major laundry areas become more crucial to achieve results. Soil level, water hardness, amount of dilution, and water temperature are all areas that should be considered. Since every household is different, the formula should be tweaked to suit each household's laundry....See Moremamapinky0
