Grading issue, water in basement

Drew Armstrong

Hello,

Hopefully my picture shows up. We have been getting water in our basement every time we have a good amount of rain. I believe the problem is the grading. the water flows from the top of the yard, goes towards the house, then drops down behind the retaining wall and shoots out about half way down the wall and pools up at the base of the retaining wall (we have a walk out basement).

The problem with trying to correct the grade is that the gas and power lines run about two feet from the house and also about 7-9 ft from the house. There is only about two inches of clearance from the gravel to the siding also.

I was was thinking of a French drain, but didn't know if this would catch the water from the top running off?

FYI, I will be doing this with a shovel. Unless it's too big of a project and then I'll hire someone.

Any suggestions would be great.

Thanks
