Baking question for Grainlady

Last year I baked a gluten free apple cake with Bob's Red Mill almond flour. my DD's loved it.

So, I decided to make it again. This time they both didn't like it, saying it wasn't the same. It was more grainy. I tasted it and felt the same way. Last year it had a smoother texture, more like marzipan.

My question to you is, did I do something wrong, even though I followed the directions correctly, or was it the way this type of flour is made? Sometimes more grainy depending on the batch you get?

Do you recommend a different brand?
