1986 southern living cookbook annual

I believe (emphasizing believe) there is a stuffed tenderloin recipe in the 1986 southern living cookbook, if anyone could help me out to see if there is, my son wants me to make tenderloin for Christmas dinner and I can't seem to find it anywhere else

Stuffed Tenderloin 1986 Southern Living Annual Recipes Pg 323

2 c. herb-seasoned stuffing mix

1 pound slice smoked ham, diced

1 c. finely chopped onion

1 (3 1/2 ounce) pkg. sliced pepperoni, minced

2 eggs, beaten

1/3 c. water

1/2 t. garlic powder

1/4 t. pepper

1 (7- to 7 1/2#) beef tenderloin

Paprika

6 slices bacon

1 cup water

1 bay leaf

4 whole cloves

1 1/2 T. cornstarch

1/8 t. pepper

Combine first 8 ingred. Mix well; set aside.

Trim excess fat from beef. Remove 3-4 inches of small end; reserve for other uses. Cut tenderloin lengthwise to within 1/2" of other edge, leaving one long side connected. Spoon stuffing mixture into opening of tenderloin. Fold top side over stuffing. Tie tenderloin securely w/ heavy string at 2- to 3- inch intervals. Sprinkle paprika over all sides, and place on a rack in a shallow roasting pan. Arrange bacon over top.

Place 1 cup water, bay leaf & cloves in roasting pan. Bake at 350 for 60-70 minutes or until meat reaches internal temperature of 140 (rare) or 160 (medium).

Transfer tenderloin from rack to serving platter, reserving 1/4 cup drippings. Keep meat warm. Remove bay leaf & cloves. Add water to reserved drippings to make 1 1/2 cups. Combine dripping mixture and cornstarch in a medium saucepan; stir well. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until thickened and bubbly. Stir in pepper. Serve w/ tenderloin.

Brendon, I understand the concept, and if it were really the case that people were saying that fire suppression (whistling) was the primary trigger for the initiation of bark beetle outbreaks (tree death), then you might have a point. But no one says that, or at least it's not something that I've ever heard said or seen published among bark beetle specialists. And for that matter, the paper doesn't even report on whether there's a difference between the year without whistling (pre-fire-suppression) and the next. Based on their data sources, I doubt they had the statistical power to prove the negative. Drought stress is commonly considered to be a main trigger for regional conifer bark beetle outbreaks. But even when regional outbreaks are occurring, the susceptibility of a given stand to infestation is affected by that stand's structure and composition. Fire history is a factor that affects stand structure and composition. These points are well-supported in the literature for many systems. Back to your analogy, the idea that fire suppression could affect bark beetle susceptibility is not nearly as unlikely as the idea that whistling could affect tree death. There is a mechanistic connection. Also, these associations they're reporting are significant, but not absolute. For example, they find that 24% of the time that there was an AMO of at least 1.6, there was an outbreak in the study areas. Hello Marshall, Brandan and others, Thanks for your interest in Whole Systems Ag and I am glad you enjoyed Dr B's paper. I think it's one of the best I've seen on oaks. Yes, I've visited the Santa Barbara museum many times when my family was living in Thousand Oaks. The botanic garden was a particularly nice attraction because, at the time, I was doing a lot of work with native plants. I checked out the PGI and that looks like a kind of Jungian place. I had a big interest in that stripe of psychology at that time too. At present, my work on the farm and with the tasks in front of my nose keep me from the more academic pursuits I once enjoyed. The garden at Pacifica sounds like a wonderful endeavor. Indeed, I'd be delighted if you should come for a visit. I seldom leave the farm so one time is about as good as another. I have been a cookbook collector for years. I guess it's my way of making up for not cooking. Like Vannie, I prefer the ones put out by Jr. Leagues, schools, churches, offices, and neighborhood organizations, charities, etc. I have an entire bookcase full of them. The only problem is finding which book has which recipe when you want it. I don't buy them nearly as often anymore. There is such a thing as running out of space and practicality is starting to take over as I'm getting older. I'm finally realizing that I probably never will take up cooking again. Still, I love reading through them.

Funny thing is that I was, just yesterday morning, looking at my bookcase of cookbooks and thinking that I ought to box them up and donate most of them to Goodwill or St. Vinnies. Probably woulda' done it then and there except that I didn't have enough boxes.
