Trumpeter: almost perfect but...â
Comments (7)Some roses go into a "Drought" mode in the heat of summer and begin to shed leaves even though they have no disease at all. Oranges 'N Lemons and Over the Moon are two of mine that come to mind that I grow. When it is hot and dry, roses shed leaves because the first place they lose moisture is through leaves. So, to stay alive and conserve their moisture they shed perfectly healthy leaves. This can leave them very bare even though they are not diseased. These two roses will shed to nothing but sticks and quit blooming almost completely when in "Drought Mode" to save their own lives. It is Mother Nature's way of coping with high temps and low moisture. It ain't pretty, but it works for them. John...See MoreThe perfect green salad...
Comments (42)What a great thread.. glad I got around to reading it. My normal salad at home-- the one I always have ingredients for is a mix of lettuces/spinach, carrots, cucumbers, onions, dried cranberries and pistachios. I add parmesan if using a vinaigrette.. skip it if using a creamy dressing. A favorite I've been craving is red leaf lettuce, butter (or any other delicate lettuces), blanched asparagus, red onion and orange segments in a citrus vinaigrette. I've added grilled shrimp and chicken to it.. but most often I like it as is. I had a life changing salad at a restaurant once-- I keep meaning to try it at home but havent as yet. Mix of lettuces, grilled chicken, blanched green beans, carrots, cucumbers, onions, macadamia nuts with a spicy thai dressing. Speaking of thai dressing-- the Thai Chicken salad at panera is my favorite "pick up a salad" treat. I don't remember what all is in it but I know there's carrots, cucumbers, roasted edamame, peanut sauce and a spicy dressing. I make a southwestern-ish salad with chopped lettuce, black beans, garbanzo beans, brown rice, onions, cucumbers, cilantro and lime vinaigrette. Love apples in my salads.. and also in my tuna salad. I'll try any concoction but I never use egg, blue cheese, feta cheese or olives....See MoreA 4 zone Mini-split would be perfect for me---BUT...
Comments (6)I appreciate everyone's response-- Thanks so much. The simple idea is to replace the 4 upstairs apartment window ACs, WITHOUT using the heating ductwork that runs through the whole house. That is, the upstairs AC system must be isolated from the downstairs apt. ---The two best solutions discussed---seem to be the "air handler" that I can put in the attic---from that attic location, I can easily run four cool air supply ductwork to the ceilings of the 3 bedrooms & living room. HOWEVER, "smworker1" posted (2/22/08 at 13:42) a comment that he thought that MITSUBISHI might manufacture a mini-split AC that could cover 4 locations/rooms/zones with one mini-split AC unit. I would really like to be directed to a web-site--and or model # of such a unit. Such a unit would fit my needs absolutely great! ---I would prefer to go one mini-split, with 4 zones, if it is available, because a mini-split system is relatively easy to install--and it provides zone control for each of the 4 locations/rooms. However, if no such 4 zone unit exists, I'll go with the in-the-attic-air-handler. So, I await the final verdit on the 4 zone/room, mini-split AC. ---Be clear, I mean 1 mini-split unit, with 4 zones---not, 2 mini-split units, each with 2 zones. Thanks for everyone's help....See MorePerfection Salad with lime jello
Comments (7)Oh phyllis! sounds like something I might do. I've made plain jello in fancy vintage molds before and turned it out too early to get a nice watery mess on the plate. No jiggle, just slosh. But I've had good luck other times too. plllog -Your recipe is alot like one I printed off. But I'll probably go super simple with just the carrot/cabbage.More often than not the recipe I found online also included pineapple but I never saw that before, even celery and onion. Mom said she did add a bit of vinegar to hers. Ok, I'll add veggies after jello sets a bit. I figured that was the best way to go. As far as mayo (or sour cream), I think she used that as a dressing over a serving. I found a simple recipe for that....See More- 10 years ago
