Day 7 - Box Challenge Finale
Comments (10)Checking in - have been unpacking stuff that has been waiting for the bedroom closet. With the additional shelves on the sides they are now my linen closet replacement (don't have one in this house) so I'm pretty pleased with this. Now I can move our hanging clothing still in the trailer through the wash and finally home. Happy Happy! And as the boxes leave here, the space is evolving. More items are finding where they belong or don't. I watched another episode of Hoarders today - I know we are all on the right track. I understand the psychology on how things can get out of control when life wallops you, I understand how good it feels when you regain control again instead of letting items take over. We are all different. Our belongings mean different things to each and everyone of us. I want to cherish what brings me joy, memories, are of practical use. Sometimes things change along with their value. Life changes. I want to change with it down the path where I can step freely. Tonight will should be a better sleep not seeing items pushed against the wall because they had no home. Our bathroom feels like heaven when taking a shower because there is room enough not to knock things down, stub my toe. Our kitchen will continue to be a work in progress until we get those cupboards but at least I can choose to have organized storage until then...and hopefully we can both keep it that way. Instead of walking around something that should be put away, I'm going to start picking more up every day. That job is becoming so much less hassle as my space has definition. Clutter brings clutter. Space brings peace. Next week I think will be a great week to clean the windows again to enjoy the sunny days when they arrive. See the snow sparkle at night when it falls. It all starts with one box, one bag, one item. We are doing this. We are empowered. Please share your week with us, ups and downs. Are you feeling better now? Until later, need a cuppa and think about dinner for later. Cheers my friends, Peggy...See MoreJanuary Quilting/Sewing Goals

Comments (79)Nancy, I love those clever shoe-storing ottomans; I wish I had the need for yet another ottoman. I confess to having an out-of-hand shoe situation, and I really need to address it before DH throws them (and ME!) out on the driveway. Fact is, I like shoes. A lot. My problem is I don't have one of those humongous walk-in closets with dedicated shoe storage, it is smaller, and I have had to improvise- with tiered racks, with those hanging shoe thingies, and just shoving them here and there. Mostly they end up in various places after I wear them. I am fooling myself if I think that I will dutifully bring the ones I wear the most back upstairs. I told DH the other day that I was going to address this situation, and I will. I am thinking about sticking a little tiered wired rack into our front hall closet, and will line up some of the most often used shoes there. That is the closet he throws them in when they assault his visual space. OR maybe I will install shelves, low to the floor, where I can make the most of the space. I will need to ponder this. I also want to see ML's kitchen reveal!...See MoreHealthy Check-In Summer 2016
Comments (38)My husband and I are both 50, and a few months ago we joined a 6-week crossfit "challenge" at a local gym. It included a full nutritional component, where they gave us an eating plan for the 6 weeks, and as many 30-minute trainer-led workouts as we wanted to attend each week (they recommend 3-4). Even though it is a gym, and their goal is to increase membership, they told us that getting fit and losing weight is 80% diet and 20% exercise, which I have heard before. In the 6 weeks, I lost 9 pounds, and my husband lost 28. We both lost LOTS of inches, my husband's BP has gone back to an acceptable range, and we have a lot more energy. The nutritional component was mostly no or low carb (depending on the week), with one cheat meal a week on Saturday. Cheat meals were included so that we would be less likely to feel deprived, and also for a little carb cycling. For our cheat meal, we might have two tacos or a slice of pizza or a sandwich or gluten free pasta. Guess what? We felt terrible after the cheat meal! If we happened to have it at lunch, I was worthless the rest of the day - all I wanted to do was lay around and sleep off the carbs. After a few weekends of that, we tried things like eating beans, quinoa, or even a few servings of fruit. We felt less sluggish, but still a little sleepy. We felt so great after the 6 weeks were up that we joined the gym and have continued to go 4X weekly. We still mostly adhere to the low-carb eating plan because we both have some additional weight to lose, and we also figure it is (hopefully!) our lifestyle now - we don't want to go back to lazy eating. The crossfit sessions are hard work, but a ton of fun and we feel so good and energetic afterward. The exercises switch up all the time, the sessions go fast, and best of all, I feel stronger and I'm developing muscles I haven't seen in 20 years. :)...See Moresilyab53
