FootSmart? any one order? also Angies list, anyone use it?
Comments (9)If your town or city has anything like a home and garden show, the folks from Angie's List usually are there, and the price to join is much lower at the show than if you just Google'd it and joined that way (the membership renewal prices are lower at the shows, too). Yes, it costs to go to the shows, but usually there are newspaper and Groupon-type coupons available. I've ordered from Footsmart before; they're OK. I also order from Zappos -- just compare prices. Some items I've seen on Zappos were more expensive than other places even once you factor in shipping (I believe that Zappos' prices are slightly higher here and there because of that)....See MoreWhat tools or equipment have you learned to use?
Comments (6)Like Tinmantu - I am more surprised by learning some *feminine* skills. I was a daddy's girl - he was a real handyman and shop teacher. My mom was pretty much *out-of-pocket* most of my growing years and I never learned any of the traditional skills from her. My dad managed to get the meals on the table and keep up with the home & personal tasks done too, but I don't remember being *taught* any of this. My grandmother taught me to use a sewing machine and, ironically, my mom got me a subscription to Gourmet magazine several years ago - hah. I have since learned to use some *womens* equipment - the mixer, blender, oven, stove, microwave, crepe pan, bread machine (cheating), grill, washer/dryer and even a mop. Yeah!!!! But I'm still happier and more comfortable in the garage with my table saw, router and assortment of other power tools. When I was in college, my bf taught me to how to replace the brakes, transmission and (finally) the engine in my Camaro. Yikes, that was a LONG time ago. I gladly pay to have anything auto related done now - even having it cleaned!...See MoreHave you used Snow in a Can? Any pictures?
Comments (3)Nancy, I have two left hands. Does that answer your question? lol. Ttodd, I did the kitchen window first because it's smaller and would be easier to wipe up. I sprayed around the edge of the glass is all. Same with the DR windows and storm door which can be seen from the front. I did have to Windex the windows first, then I wiped up any residue from the middle of the windows and window sills. It's not a work of art, but I kind of like it! Except when the sun shines on it which is only for an hour or so....See MoreHave you used a Binding Foot?
Comments (2)I don't mind applying the binding with a regular presser foot. (Since I'm almost done with the quilt, it's probably my favorite part of the process.) For quilts, I use the double fold bindingcut on the straight of grain. (Someday, I might make a scalloped edge and use a single layer cut on the bias.) For home dec or a wall hanging, why not use just a single layer? I have only watched the Viking dealers work with the binding foot, and do not have one myself. They said you can use it with your own bias tape, but be careful when the seams feed through. Perhaps you might want to press them all in the direction that lets them feed through more easily. I seem to recall that they want you to use bias tape, not a strip cut on the grain, so that it feeds through the curly flanges better. But then, I'm not saying it won't work if you use a strip cut on the straight of grain. It's worth trying out both ways, just to see if there really is a difference....See Moregrainlady_ks
