what are these things growing at the base of my prayer plant
Comments (8)I'm fairly certain that this fungi is pretty harmless. Not all fungi are bad. In fact, most are beneficial. The rainforests would not be as healthy as they are (not counting mankind's systematic destruction of it) if it weren't for fungi breaking down decaying organic matter and recycling it back into the soil for other plants to use. Many trees will form symbiotic relationships with fungi via their roots, benefitting both in the process. Another great example, is how orchids' seeds can only germinate in the wild if only they come into contact with a specific fungus. For the longest time, people couldn't get orchid seeds to germinate. That is, until someone discovered the symbiotic relationship between orchids and fungi. After that discovery, orchid breeding exploded all over the world, giving us literally hundreds of thousands of hybrids. Not to mention, driving the prices of orchids down significantly. Making it possible for anyone that wants to, to grow their own. That's what these fungi are doing in your soil, just breaking down the compost, or other decaying organic matter, into usable nutrients. I would just let them be (if any more mushrooms pop up). If it's not broke, don't fix it. Your plant seems to be very healthy. A few years ago, I hung up a Topsy Turvy strawberry planter (Which I absolutely love using). Well I guess the soil/compost mix I had used had caused quite a few of these same mushrooms to sprout from just about every opening. I just left them alone and my strawberries did just fine. I wasn't too concerned, because I was letting the strawberry plants get established and just pinched off any flower buds for the first year anyways. The mushrooms eventually went away on their own, and my plants grew a bunch of strawberries over the next couple of years. :)...See MoreMy prayer plant needs help
Comments (1)Do you have a picture? If getting yellow leaves it could be a watering issue. The leaves foldedup before? Where was it when the leaves would fold?...See MoreWhat is wrong with my tomatoes! My first year planting them.
Comments (9)It may grow past the damage. Or it may not. I personally would eat the fruit they produce--others may have a different opinion--but the badly damaged ones may not produce fruit or only produce a small amount, and it may be stunted. The brown spot on the tomato in the first picture looks like damage from rubbing against the cage. Such damage is no big deal unless a mold or something takes the opportunity to start rotting the fruit or it attracts the attention of a pest. EDIT: For future, maybe you can put your plants somewhere else on your property. If not, maybe you can talk to your neighbor and come to some kind of agreement or you can offer to pull his weeds by hand/hire a neighborhood kid to pull his weeds by hand or something, depending on what problem he's trying to solve....See MoreWhat’s wrong with my mango plant?
Comments (14)You always need to be more careful with moisture retaining soils. Large Mangos are quite tough plants and will often come back from severe reversals. Smaller trees are more sensitive. They've evolved in a monsoonal climate where they often get flooded out during the wet season and are completely dry in the dry season. The dry season coincides with the coolest night time temperatures. A wooden skewer or chop stick pushed into the soil to see if there's moisture below is a common method for checking. The surface soil will often look dry when below it isn't. The leaves in your second photo are okay, but don't let them get to the stage of those in the first photo. And keep them away from cold night temperatures....See MoreAhmed Sa'eed
