Calcutta gold mosaic (3/8") was my first choice for our bathroom floor. When I saw it at the tile store, it was mounted and grouted and I swear there is no prettier stone in the world. They didn't call it calcutta but crema fantasy. When the salesperson ordered it she mistakenly ordered crema marfil - which IMO is not even in the same league as calcutta. It turned out that this particular manufacturer discont'd the calcutta and the only other place I could find it wanted over $30 /sqft. I just couldn't justify the cost. What does this have to do with you? Well, it's just my round about way of saying - Yes, yes, yes, go for the calcutta mosaic floor! I would just love to see it installed. Now having said that, keep in mind that it won't be as carefree as a ceramic floor. When I was staining our door and the mahogany stain seeped through the drop cloth and onto the new tile, I was pretty happy we had gone for the ceramic hexes. No matter what you go for, please post pix. It sounds like your bath will be wonderful.

The gem lock stuff is an expensive choice for what you're actually getting. And it reminds me way too much of the old laminate counters with wood edges that builders did in homes. It's a look that I do not think will ever be popular or age well, especially with a contrasting edge. The Basalt Slate is a much much better look with your cabinets. It's clean and simple.

Thank you everyone for your comments! We did a couple sample layouts tonight based on your advice, and we’re going to do the charcoal in the shower floor. If I can’t find a good quartz/etc remnant for the curb, we’ll do the large hex cut in half - with the darker gray grout we’re considering for the floor, I think it will look better than the white grout example I posted. I just can’t believe they are finally starting to do real work in the master bath - so much is changing in the house as a whole, but this is our biggest single room project with all new materials and design elements. Exciting and terrifying all at once!

It's too small for the bold veining in the granite, and the contrasting grout makes it more pronounced/busy. You don't need a picture behind the cook top , either. Keep it VERY simple, The granite is plenty of power : ) A soft white ceramic subway in a newer size, like 2 x 10, or 4 x 12....and match the grout,. Done. Depending cabinet color selection.
