Do you caulk flat panel doors on cabinets?
Comments (7)Caulk wil transfer the stress of the expanding panel to the frame of the door and start to force the joint apart. The weakest direction for just about any joint in a frame and panel constructionis tension loading. The next thing you wil be looking to repair is the cracks between the rails nad stiles in the frame. Frame and panel is designed to allow the wide are of the panel to move without forcing the frame apart, and at the same time concealing the movement inside the groove in the frame that copatures the edge of the panel. Not only does MDF move, unlike real wood it moves in both directions in a panel (width and height). Real wood has negligable movement parallel to the grain, but significant movement perpendicular to the grain. I have repaired more panel doors that have split panels from being glued, caulked, or even paint glued into the frames than you can shake a stick at....See MorePainting wood paneling
Comments (5)If you want to paint the paneling, you have the right idea with this procedure: "i'm thinking i'd first clean the panel, then sand it, prime it, mud/tape/fill grooves, sand again, prime again, paint. i'm liking this option best because it seems like the least amount of difficult work. but what will the results be?" I recently painted wood paneling (chair rail height) in a room, but I didn't fill the ridges. I tried to create the effect of wainscoting. So I rolled on the finish paint, then brushed through it to get a smooth finish. I would think that if you just rolled the paint on the paneling in the same method as the walls, they'd look pretty similar as far as the roller stipple is concerned....See MorePainting over dark green fake wood paneling. Comments (1)not real paneling? looks white from here what finish coats did you use? another coat should cover it no need for more primer...See MoreCan you caulk cabinet panels AFTER lacquering?!
Comments (21)On occasion when we have sprayed doors we have gotten bridging like this. The cause almost always for us is forgetting to change to the correct size spray tip for the product that we are using. Our solution?? Cut it out and spray the doors again. The stiles and rails of our doors have a very slight chamfer on the cope so the "bridging of the finish is less likely to happen. Your door appears to have an applied molding on the inside profile of a shaker style door. The way that is was applied looks to be tight against the panel and would need to be caulked to prevent this because the seam is so close....See MoreSombreuil
