Insecticides around conifers
Comments (7)Concern about the conifers would not be at the top of my list :-) "Totally non-toxic" is a bit of a stretch. While pyrethrins are not highly toxic, at least to humans and other mammals, they do pose some toxic properties, typically related to inhalation and respiratory distress. And they have profound toxicity with other organisms, primarily aquatic life, some bird species and of most concern, bees. I'd also want to be very certain that the product used was entirely natural in origin. Synthetic pyrethroids tend to be much more common than the natural product (cheaper and easier to manufacture) and have greatly increased potency. And since pyrethrins (the natural chemical) degrades rapidly with water, any misting system using this type of insecticide is propably going to involve one of the synthetics or at least other additives that counteract this proclivity. And those additive/adjuvants are often much more harmful or toxic than the active ingredient. Why not consider using something that has a much more targeted approach, like Bacillus thuringeinsis israeliensis, which is available in various forumlations specifically for mosquito and fly control. And is considered one of the safest of the biocontrol insecticides....See MoreGranite fabricator recommendations around greater Philly area?
Comments (12)I'm a Plumbing & Heating contractor, and I saw this thread while looking for alternatives to do granite in our new home. I've hooked up sinks to granite from Colonial Marble - Santoro - Imperial - Addesso - etc from our area. I got a price from Stonemasters (very nice people and very Professional) but I couldn't justify the $1,700.00 price difference between them and Colonial. Colonial offered us more for our money than Stonemasters, and I couldn't ignore that fact while going through the process. I live by the old adage "You get what you pay for"...and if Colonial was that bad, they would even be in the conversation for me. If the gap was much closer, I would of absolutely used Stonemasters to do our granite, but I will absolutely keep them in mind for my next project. I've seen people rip Colonial marble, and they even made a small mistake on my fathers home, but they do nice as work as well. I've even asked my customers what their thoughts were on Colonial marble...and it was overwhelmingly more positive than negative. One of the best Kitchen renovation companies, in the Norristown area that does high end kitchens on the main line, uses Colonial marble, and for me that speaks volumes, cause their reputation is on the line as well. Anyone that goes to the King of Prussia Mall, can go to the food court, and see the yards and yards of granite installed by Colonial. The bottom line is...for our area, ALL of the companies generally do nice work. I've seen most of their work, but the key for any company is standing behind their mistakes. I move in my new home in 2 weeks, then the granite will be installed, so I will be paying attention to the installation from Colonial Marble. If by some chance Colonial does me wrong and does a terrible installation, I will absolutely come back and do a follow up. However, I've seen way too much of their work to think other wise. One thing to keep in mind, and I requested this with Colonial...for template, I want a lazer template, not the old school way of doing things. It was a deal breaker for me, and I have it in my contract with Colonial. I know this thread is almost a year old, but I wanted to give my opinion for those coming behind me looking for reviews....See MoreRecommendations for a tiling dilemma around the tub
Comments (12)As the others have mentioned, you can disguise the access panel as a stand-alone tile in a field of tile, with the access tile held by magnets or some other means. It can also be disguised on a paneled front. Here's one I did, any of the three individual panels is removable, or all three panels along with the face frame are removable. No tools. Lift-and-rotate to remove. No rattling when in place. Just another technique......See MoreQuestion for Al concerning insecticide he recommended
Comments (5)The label is the law. While you might look at this product and say to yourself that active ingredient imidicloprid might be considered harmless, in fact we put it on dogs under the name Advantage, the devil is in the details. We do not know what the other 98.5 % 'other ingredients' consist of. And before one blithely decides to assume risk, the little warning that says effect that off label use is a violation of Federal law , you might consider that if something happens and you are hurt, that your insurance company is bound to try to not pay out for activities that violate Federal law....See Morerooftopbklyn (zone 7a)
