I have only had my Viking double oven about 10 days. It is easy to see and understand. I bought the professional only because I liked the looks. I did not think I was getting the clock but digital which would tell me oven temp. The oven works great so far at least for 10 days. I probably would not order again only because you do not know when the oven is at the correct temp. They said the light would go off but the light goes on and off as it is adjusting temp. So unless you stand there and wait you have to guess when it is at correct temp. I should have made a bigger fuss when they ordered the wrong oven but I had waited so long I felt it would not annoy me as much as it does. I did have a complaint about the knobs on the double oven did not match the range top. The store and distribution center both told me I would have to pay an addt'l $189. for the black knobs to match my range top. I called the Viking Corp office and they apologized and sent me out the matching knobs no cost. I received in about 7 days. So as far as that is concerned they were excellent with the customer service. Hopefully that will be the only time I need to contact them. I know my Mom who is 80 would understands and be able to see the clock and knobs and how to use my oven.

Yep, it is not the induction. I wanted induction, but my budget won't support it at the moment. Had it been induction, both would have been mine, budget be damned ;-). deb52899, keep in touch with the dealer, and other dealers in your area. I got a quote for the same unit I bought from a local dealer and they quoted $6400 with tax, delivery and installation for a "retail" version. Mine was identical, just overstock. They probably would have picked up the new in box overstock and kept the extra $3k. Look for showroom models, OTC and other options. You can save a lot going that direction. I just returned from the distributor and picked up a range hood that was in the OTC area. I picked up a VWH3048SS with a VINV600 blower installed. Retail was about $1600 for the pair, $350 was my price. If you can work with separate cooktop and ovens, they had several induction cooktops there. Not big discounts on them though.. Dodge - I try not to make assumptions, or broadly criticize. I try to call a spade a spade. Like the good folks that complied that chart I base most of my advice on experience and my own collected historical data. After 15 years of nothing but high end kitchens that is now considerable for high line gear. Not so much on the mass market stuff. In addition I actually own or have owned and used a lot of these units that are kicked around here. Their chart is nice, but you can clearly see that they concentrate on the mass market and lower price stuff. Nothing wrong with that. There are some nice units. At my playground up the ladder a ways things are different, prices are higher and so are expectations. Folks around GW tend not to over analyze a $1200 Kenmore fridge purchace. They do often fret over a built in one costing 5 to 6 times that. So accuracy is key (in my view) when playing there. So, what's wrong with their chart? 1. Thermador- some of their units are made by Bosch, their parent but others are are are the same basic box from Whirlpool that these guys tout as a best buy. Someone reading this in ignorant bliss would likely conclude that Thermador was a no no. Parts are also not hard to come buy unless you are not an authorized service center. Then they are a available as anyone elses subject to the normal supply chain logistics that affect all large manufacturers. 2. Viking - their fake built ins are indeed built by Whirlpool and look nice too. Can't be a really good unit AND a clunker just because of a better paint job. Viking's built in line , generally regarded as bad news is made by Viking themselves on tooling and dies bought from Amana - which they gave good marks to. 3. Marvel - if they were being consistent it would list the manuf. as Northland, which was left off the list, OR AGA which bought both of them a few years ago in the boom time. 4. Left off the list were Miele and Gaggenau which represent SZ's largest competitor today. Also missing is JennAir which has mid range boxes and a built in line that is well built if not sexy. They were the first to pioneer the variable speed compressor you mentioned, which is the future. Liebherr is also not represented, another GW darling. Their Dishwasher chart and advice is also inaccurate when assessing the high end models.

yes have electric 3 yrs old & propane fueled 7 yrs old in different homes. no issues w doors (except to adapt to left closing). both perform well. electric more bells whistles being newer.. digital and pizza stone. however on advice on tech (we had 1 svc call for faulty thermostat ez repair but they pulled entire panel and replaced), pizza stone carefully removed, stored. this way oven heats and cools faster. note that neither throws excessive heat into space. trade off is a fan running to aid slow deliberate cool down. this might annoy in an open space eat in kitchen. our fan friendly oven is installed in walk in pantry utility room that houses freezer and extra refrig (main kitchen has 30" Leibherr)
