Are you referencing new ducts, programmable thermostat, high voltage wiring, equipment, and inspections? If so, $9,500.00 for the job is not to high. The variable speed may be $2,300.00 per ton. I am assuming you are speaking of the air handler as being variable speed. To answer your other question, for all practical purposes, you may never recoup the additional expenses. The energy savings in terms of dollars and cents are not worth the increase cost, normally. The cost to repair a variable speed blower is much higher than a multi-speed air handler. FYI, a per ton price is never a good conversation point for a change-out. At $1900, two tons equals $3800.00 Three tons equals $5,700.00. The difference is $1,900.00. But the equipment cost could be as little as $400.00 different. And, the labor is the same. Per ton price cause some contractors to oversize just to be able to charge more. We replaced a 5-ton unit in New Orleans for a 3.5 ton unit. The 3.5 ton unit will do a better job with the humidity. In Durham, NC, our customer asked us to replace his 3.5 ton A/C unit and furnace for a 2.5 ton A/C because of the humidity problem that he wanted to solve.

Greetings, I've been scouring the web about variable speed pumps, as I will be replacing all of our pool equipment during a complete remodel that will begin later this week. I understand the cost saving that a variable speed pump provides, but we seem to have lower electrical costs in my area, so the pay-back might be drawn out. Also, nearly every time I read about folks using variable speed pumps, they're on pools with water features, heaters, floor cleaning systems, etc. Our pool is very basic: 1.5" plumbing Separate skimmer, main drain and cleaner suction lines 3 returns Will the investment in a variable speed pump pay off in my case? Two speed pumps are an option, but an expensive timer is required unless you switch manually, and I'll need to do something in order for the pool cleaner to work. Or, do I just get one of the more energy efficient, single speed pumps? Thanks!

Not all Pop Up systems are equal But in general, the VS-3050 is the better choice The SVRS has a lot more applications than as a replacement pool pump for older pools. New construction is one. Many places require an approved SVRS in place. The commercial sector isn't just water parks and swim clubs, but also health care facilities and hotels/motels with pools just to name a couple. The sensitivity of the pump is somewhat settable. It's rapid changes that trip it, such as the change between zones on some floor cleaning systems. Paramount has a transmission with bypasses that usually works fine. Without the bypasses in place, it does trip because the pump senses a dead headed condition between zone changes. Scott The controller recognizes the load characteristics on the motor during this situation but it doesn't know if it was on the suction or return side. It assumes it's on the suction side with a better safe than sorry shut down decision.

FWIW, I've posted here about my experience with my well, very small pressure tank, and cycle stop valves. I may have given the impression that the cycle stop did not perform well, but it did. As it turned out all the problems I had that I thought might be cycle stop related went away when the pump and motor were replaced. I wouldn't hesitate to consider the cycle stop if it were useful in your situation. The small pressure tank provides water for a pot of tea or a toilet flush, but as soon as demand increases very much at all the pressure tank is cut out of the system and the well pump runs continuously until the demand is terminated and the pressure tank refilled. Then the whole works goes to sleep until next time. Good luck, M
