Huango and others, yes, I posted my complete plans awhile ago but without measurements since my KDdoesn't allow you to take the plans with you until you've signed the contract. I am aware of the controversy surrounding the DW placement, but the only other option was the peninsula, which is immediately perpendicular to the sink (the lower cabinet to the right of the sink is a super susan). I am currently living with a DW on a peninsula that is perpendicular to the sink and I. HATE. IT. HATE! I can't stand in front of he sink while it is open because it is located too close tothe corner. The new peninsula in the new kitchen will also be small, and I was hoping to store dishes and glasses in those lower cabs, so unfortunately there isn't a place for it on the peninsula either. I am just hoping that it won't be an issue in the new kitchen...hoping. I am also planning to do quite a bit of prep on the peninsula since it is a much bigger chunk of counter space, and also right by the fridge. Here is the rest of my plan. I do love the feedback, but it's also too late for me to change anything, so try not to get me all freaked out. LOL! It sounds like a lighted mirror or medicine cabinet is a good choice, to me. People are going to come on and tell you that they no longer like towers that separate the two sink areas. Water gets splashed, sinks feel crowded in, and so on. At that point, tell them that you will recess the tower into the wall 4" and only 6 " or so will be on the counter - LOL! Lot of people find that having the tower sit on a second layer of the counter material also helps keep the wood dry. It is like the tower has a little platform under it. My only concern with the lighted mirrors is that they can look pretty modern, so what style of cabinetry and overall style will your bathroom be?

Your concerns are very valid, and there is absolutely no need to have pendant lighting if you have can lighting there. I'm from a family of tall people and really understand wanting the upper visual space to feel open. Keep the extra light you've added. It's always safer to have extra light than to miss it, and you can put those lights on dimmers to adjust the levels to the need of the moment.

over the island i would rather see something like this, than individual pendants over the isalnd. for the sink, i would do one 'down' light. 3 to me is overkill and 2 will look 'weird'. are you installing under cab lights as well? with the undercab lights, it will help with the sink area. 'down' light another example(where all the light is down in your sink - none 'escaping' up or out of course get the fixture to scale with the space.
