So what is your 'meal plan' for Thanksgiving?
Comments (3)Happy Thanksgiving everyone! I hope yours was blessed. DH talked me into going out to a buffet, which I wasn't too wild about. For me, Thanksgiving had always been a family day and my extended family is large, happy, bustling and noisy and I love it all. This year, we had only my son joining the two of us therefore the buffet. At the last minute, daughter-in-law to be (as of a week from this coming Saturday) unexpectedly had the day off and came along. Turned out the four of us had a lovely dinner with traditional holiday fare. Not too big of a selection but absolutely delicious. Turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy, green bean casserole, corn, a delicious sweet potato dish, and cranberry sauce, followed by a selection of chocolate mousse and pumpkin, apple, or pecan pie! Very nice :-)...See MoreCanadian friends, what are you Thanksgiving plans?
Comments (14)Your posts have made me anxious for our Thanksgiving to get here. You will all have such a nice day with wonderful food and family. Pickyshopper, I don't know which holiday people travel "home" for in the States. Good question! Our family always gathered at Thanksgiving and it's still my favorite holiday. Cherryfizz, I was wondering if anyone was having butter tarts. They sounds so yummy! Blfenton, eight people is quite a few--or would be in our little house. Isn't it strange that both our countries have basically the same meal for Thanksgiving? We're all pretty smart--can't think of another meal that tastes better or smells better. Luckygardnr, you don't look old enough to have a grown daughter!!! Wow, what's your secret? Jasdip, (Miss Smarty in the top ten on the trivia game :-) I want to make your turnip puff and have the recipe but did you say you made it with rutabaga? I like rutabaga better, but wanted to double-check. Holy cow, Taigen, you're a better mom than I am. One turkey dinner is enough! I'd be tempted to freeze the leftovers and reheat. That's a lot of work, girl! Good luck with "the meeting" today. Wish I could be in your kitchens just to sniff today. Guess I just have to wait. Sigh!...See MoreWhat Are Your Plans For Thanksgiving?
Comments (32)We will celebrate with my family on the Sunday before, there are 6 of us and our oldest brother is coming home with his wife so it will be the first time in several years that we will celebrate all together. We're going to my younger brother's new home, I'll make fruited wild rice dressing with dried apricots and cherries, it's yummy. I'll also bring a corn pudding as it's become a favorite. My family will eat pretty much anything and are willing to try new things. On Thanksgiving day we will host my husbands family. I enjoy their company but they are boring when it comes to food. Always the same thing, turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, and corn. Husband's mom always made the dressing, very bland and mushy - not my favorite. She passed away a couple of years ago so now I can atleast do my dressing. Sister in law will do green bean casserole. They don't like change but I usually try to introduce them to something new. This year I think it will be beets and carrots as my garden here in Southeast Wisconsin is still going. I have it under hoops and we are still getting carrots, beets, peas, lettuces and kohlrabi. They won't do sweet potatoes at all. Boring. We will smoke the turkey if the weather permits....See MoreDo you have Thanksgiving (and other holiday) plans?
Comments (54)Cases are the highest ever here in PA at almost 5000 today. I have not been in anyone's home for nine months except for my daughter's. They live a few miles from me and both work from home and have since March. Their son has his first real job after just graduating from college in the spring and mainly works at home too. He does fieldwork occasionally. We all ate at a newly opened seafood restaurant last Sat. to celebrate husband's birthday but we were at a large table outside on their porch near no one. Today I read it's four times more likely you'll get covid from eating inside at a restaurant versus the gym or even church. I guess we'll have thanksgiving at the daughter's house and the only extra person will be my son-in-law's 86 year old mother who lives in a retirement community. But if my daughter doesn't want to do it I'll understand....See Moreravencajun Zone 8b TX
