Latest bathroom design...what do you think?
Comments (9)I like the 1st & 2nd designs, but I very much do not like the little closet between the tub and toilet areas. It feels awkward. Is it intended as a linen closet? I'd rather tuck it in where you have the towel racks marked on the 2nd design and put your towel racks on the back wall by the tub. Overall, I like the 1st design best, with the separate sink areas, if you can solve that storage problem, but whether that works better than a long double sink really is personal preference and how you and your spouse get ready in the mornings/use the space - My DH & I have difference schedules, so I don't have to think about how to maneuver around each other in the morning (which is good because before I've had my tea - this is a very dangerous time! ;-) ) One idea I have for using design 1 and including a linen space is to put it on the wall by your toilet room door - so inset the toilet room another foot, so you can put a cabinet on that wall - make the doorway a little deeper to the toilet room (hope that makes sense) - the storage wouldn't be 5ft wide, maybe 2.5 or 3ft, but it wouldn't awkwardly overlap the tub. Another thought - shorten the sink across from the shower to 4ft, and put the linen storage 90 degrees on the wall into the closet. (Or turn the island into a linen cabinet) My 2 cents! Hope it helps! Hunzi This post was edited by hunzi on Mon, Mar 31, 14 at 11:53...See MoreWhat do you think about commingling the bathroom and the closet?
Comments (33)we dont have a master bath, just put the main bathroom right next to the master bedroom (we prefer it that way since we are on different schedules, and was cheaper to build with one less bathroom anyway) We have the shower and family closets together in a room off of the bathroom. We dont store clothes in bedrooms, but put the closets where we get dressed at. having them together is so convenient for undressing and redressing right next to the shower. The shower is walled in around the ceiling, and has a vent fan, so moisture is not an issue. The bathroom is shared with everyone so we put the washer/dryer behind sliding doors, and turned the toilet so you cant be seen even if you dont close the pocket door to completely seal it off from the room. We also have a door out to the patio which works well for hanging laundry on a clothesline, or for putting filty kids straight into the tub. Ours was a custom build that seems to be confusing to some people that we dont have closets in the bedrooms, and get dressed in the shower room. Nevermind a door so we dont have to track through the entire house to get to the bathroom. Thats the great thing about being able to build your own home-do it to suit your lifestyle....See MoreHow do you feel about resilient floors in bathrooms?
Comments (3)Geography: Upper American Midwest I'm not sure where you're looking that you're only finding floors that "kinda cheap and ugly looking". Once you get out of the big-box home improvement stores (and even in some of those), there are some very realistic-looking patterns, even from the major manufacturers. They're not 99 cents a square foot, though. Thing of it is, at least up until the current housing-market collapse, most people were more interested in the look than the materials. Just look at the sales for cheaper patterns and origins of granite and the number of low-end appliance manufacturers that slapped stainless-steel finishes on their boxes. All that made the (desired) look much easier to afford; never mind that it was an imitation of truly-high-end granite and truly-high-end appliances. So if your client wants to put in a vinyl floor that merely looks like stone (and looks passably like what it's supposed to), and the house does not demand the highest-priced materials, who's to care? Don't ask, don't tell. :-)...See MoreBathroom Tile, what do you think of accent tile
Comments (13)Hi beverly27, thanks, oh I like the accenting tile on the bench and the floor, we just demo'd the shower door and realize we have two lights in the bathroom and a window which makes it very light, so now we are thinking of a darker tile as a choice, but not sure if we should put the same tile on floor as the shower. we plan on an expresso black vanity with a white sink, the bathroom is so small that the vanity can only be 24 inches in width. will post photos in a new thread as well....See Moreakl_vdb
