November Windows 10 Upgrade.

Just an FYI for readers:

I went round and round with the
November W10 Home 1511, 10586 "upgrade" for a week. All the other November "updates"
downloaded and installed properly.

The system would recognize the
availability of the "upgrade" and download it. It just wouldn't
install.

I researched and found I was not the only user with the specific concern. I tried many of the suggestions to no avail. Then out of the blue I thought of something. I increased the size of
the Recovery Image (D:) drive. Everything has been working fine ever
since.

I take it that after Increasing the size of the Recovery Image Partition that you were able to install the Upgrade? I didn't have any problems installing the Update on 4 Laptops and 1 Desktop. I still have a Tablet to Upgrade, just haven't had time yet! Just hoping after seeing this that I don't need to increase that Partition on my tablet, tablet drive sizes are already too small. My computers all have plenty of room in those partitions!

Wondering how you did it. I increased mine from 100 to 200 MB (suggested by several forums), but only when I was forced to reinstall Win7 on a cleanly partitioned HD.

It was Gorgeous here today! Like one of the best days of the year. Kids in the neighborhood riding their bikes in short sleeves, blue skies, a nice little breeze, bright sunshine. I LOVED it! Feels a little like October.

GGG, we will be eagerly awaiting the photos I'm sure you will be taking as your efforts come to fruition. You always have such a wonderful sense of color and design! The yellowing maple and walnut leaves are slowly being stripped from the trees. I was surprised to come upstairs and see that it rained a bit during the night. The wind is starting to pick up too. Looks like our rainy season has indeed started here in Northern CA. We haven't gotten much, but just enough that I haven't had to water -- hooray! My cherry tomato 'Sungolds' are gamely hanging on. I'll try to keep them going as long as I can. The taste of these turned my tomato-hating DH into a tomato lover! The short bouts of unseasonable cold we kept receiving in the late summer/early fall have totally confused the spring-flowering bulbs and plants, because we'd get just enough warm days in between to encourage the rest of the garden. So my rhodies are budding and my freesias are sending up leaves, all a good 3 months early. Other CA gardeners have reported the same thing, so I'm not alone in this unusual scenario. You can garden all year 'round here, but we don't get those beautiful displays of fall color due to lack of consistent winter chill. Where we live there are 3-7 frost days per year -- not snow or real cold, just where the temps dip below 32 degrees overnight, then warm back up to the fifties in the daytime. Still, the dampness saturates the colors and makes the yellowing leaves of the Japanese maples and sweetgum trees stand out in the grey overcast: My beautiful bearded iris are blooming again, which they do 2 or 3 times a year. Best free gift I was ever given! The coral passiflora vine is happily invading the neighbor's yard. Fortunately it's a rental house now and they don't seem to mind that it's winding through the tops of their nandina and bird-of-paradise. It flowers all year long so at least it's a pretty intruder:

It should revert you back to exactly what you had prior to the upgrade. And yes you only have 30 days available to do this. The previous version is in a file called Windows old. If you go to the security center then under restore it should have the option to restore it to the previous state. I am not at home right now or I could provide links to show you how to do it. Try Google for restore previous version from Windows 10. I have heard from some people that not everything returned perfectly. But it's supposed to work. I don't know how you will fare. I would absolutely remove any antivirus programs prior to changes.

Thanks everyone. mikie, that sounds a little complex. If necessary, I'll try it, though. An update... last night after posting here, I decided to try to get those Windows updates redone and out of 'stall' mode. So, what happened was the latest version of Windows 10 updated - it was a long one, took about an hour. After that, my computer is working like I think it should as far as speed with no lags. I haven't used it enough to see if that "HD Intel Graphics Display driver has stopped working and has recovered" popup happens again. So far it hasn't. While doing the Windows 10 update, I could see it was installing new drivers for quite some time, so I'm hoping that will resolve the issue. If not, it looks like I'll have to return it because it's really annoying to continually see this popup whenever I try to navigate the internet. I'll post back to report what happens. Thanks to you all for your help.

Through the System Restore utility.

Control Panel>System>(upper left corner)System Protection>System Protection tab>Configure>turn on System Protection AND adjust Disk Space usage slide bar>Apply>OK>OK

The D: drive is now 20% of the 2TB hard drive or 368.69 GB. So says the utility. Originally it was 10%.

How is that possible ? The windows up -date would be wanting to install to the "C" drive and you increase the size of the D drive and the up date installs. Help me to understand, I'm sure I'll be seeing this on my Malware removal forums too.

OK, confused alittle. On Win7, the "recovery drive" is labeled "System Reserved" and is the first partition -- no drive letter. Originally it was a mere 100 MB -- later increased to 200 MB by me. Sounds like Win10 does something a bit different, and its recovery drive is FAR larger. On my Win7, the system reserved drive currently has a mere 32 MB of data in it, out of 200 MB (84% free).

Wondering if this will cause issues when I later upgrade to Win10.

Not really sure Z. It just worked. My only thinking is the additional space on D: was required to create, store and maintain the Windows backup files during and after install on C:

All I can totally attest to is it worked for me.
